5 Dogs Shooting Range suit my needs. If you want some BLM spots, check out the BLM place on Pegasus (right off Merle Haggard). I like to shoot around the Taft area which is almost the same distance (or maybe less) than 5 Dogs.

Thats actually sad to hear, I was going to go there for a pistol and rifle range. Maybe I better avoid it if a novice shooter will not feel very welcome.
I am in Fresno, and have shot at "The Range" Pistol Club range in Fresno, they were very nice and it was a pleasant experience.Comment

I shoot at a variety of places in the central valley. Depends on the venue, distance, and who I can coax along for the ride.
Mostly at the Manteca Sportsmen. As a member ($50/year after 1st year) its free each visit and 15 minutes away. Here's the 2008 general schedule.
I also shoot sporting clays/pheasant/chukar at Camanche Hills Hunting Preserve. That membership is $1500 unless you join the Stockton Sportsmen at $50/year. If you hunt pheasant, the Stockton Sportsmen puts on free hunts every year (largest pheasant co-op this side of the Mississippi). DFG doesn't know what to do with us
Skeet at the Gun & Bocci Club out of Waterloo.
Turlock and Livermore have clubs. I've never been to either. And the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center has most everything. I'd say they are worth the drive for everything if you just shoot on weekends.
It's not my venue, but there are cowboy events all over the place. MS twice a month. Jamestown, Fresno, also come to mind.
I also go to the Linden if I want to use a 200 yard rifle range. Ripon for the indoor pistol range.
If you're in Modesto, and you don't want an established range, there's plenty of National Forest just up the road. Plenty of spots out of Long Barn. Just ask at the ranger station. I'm a bit north, and often will shoot out of Pioneer/Buckhorn if not farther up 88. Highway 88 also leads to NV (Minden, Carson City, Reno) in the summer.Manteca Sportsmen General website.

I am from fresno and always go to "the range" pistol club. The guys there are always friendly.Comment

Visalia Sportsman is OLL friendly I know that, i am not sure about the other stuff. If you go to Rankin Field off of Road 140, south of SR-137, there is an honor system most weekdays. You can get a membership, and no one will be there when you shoot. However, it is run by the Sheriff's dept.Originally posted by bohokioh man i think i threw up in my mouth a littleOriginally posted by Soldier415My staff is now at 10 beers, and has a tactical red lgt ont it, and is being ttached to me by a single point sling

I've only been to the Fresno Rifle & Pistol Club a few times, but it's been a good experience so far. I have read several posts about how it is not a friendly atmosphere, but I haven't seen that ... anyone care to tell a specific story related to that?
I was thinking about getting a membership. Pricey, but this range is only 8 miles from my driveway, and I'd rather be at an outdoor range where I can shoot rifle & pick up my brass.Comment
