I'm a soon-to-be central valley shooter. I too would like to know the good BLM spots.-A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.*
*participation may vary by location. Not valid in California.

Stockton/Lathrop. I've been to Barnwood (Ripon), GunRoom (Elk Grove), Manteca Sportsman (Manteca- outdoor), and Gun Exchange( Stockton-now closed).
Gunroom- too far and too many people on Friday nites. People who rent and don't know common rules like not pointing a firearm down the line.
Ripon and Manteca best bets so far. Don't know much about Modesto and Stockton gun clubs thoughComment

The central valley does not have a lot of BLM spots but there are good places to shoot within a reasonable distance. I am a member at a private range in Jamestown. There are other ranges closer to me but I think this is the best one in the area.
If you are moving somewhere near me let me know and I will help you find some good ranges.sigpicComment

I don't practice at the local ranges. I do compete at Richmond, Chabot, Sac Valley and the River Oaks Range in Winton.
I practice at a "members only" range that's part of my employment.

5 Dogs range near BakersfieldOriginally posted by SilverTauronConsidering the facts of how easily safes can be defeated, a park bench offers the same amount of protection.Originally posted by loose_electronPE card? Visalia, b/t Fresno and Bakersfield. I moved here last year from Norcal where I had private land to shoot on. I have no place to shoot here yet
I usually shoot when I'm up north visiting family. I'm thinking about checking out Visalia Sportsmans Assn. but not sure how they'll react to AKs, Saigas and the like. Anyone care to chime in?

Private Land
I would like to hear more about the private land in the central valley. Currently I shoot at a range but it is quite the distance from my home and I would like something a little closer for the occasional practice session. Anyone know of a place like that in the central valley?sigpicComment

I shoot at Fresno Rifle/Pistol Club. One has to pony up $140.00 to become
a member in order to shoot at the nicer range though.(they have 3)
They also treat Day Shooters like dirt, so be forewarned.
I have heard good things about the range in Lemoore and the range in Visalia,
but have yet to investigate.
There is still a few areas in Madera that are cool to dove hunt in, but shooting
a rifle or handgun on private land is going the way of the Dinosaur around my
parts. Too many houses all over the place!!"I kill things for a living, don't make yourself one of them"Comment
