No surprise, OP, that scenario has come up here more than once. Sorry to hear that it happened to you and your Mom. Big box store, minimally trained (read "ignorant") staff, corporate policy is probably not to chance it if said ignorant employee can imagine it happening.

I've been to Dicks and the customer rep tried to tell me that mini mags don't shoot in a 10/22 because its a 22LR mag.....I was like, umm I'm feeling lucky, I'll risk it...

Just for clarity because I see it passed around. A straw purchase is someone who buys a gun for someone who cannot buy a gun. If both are legal to own there is no "straw purchase"

A friend who had moved away called me while she was at Dicks for advice on buying her first gun. She wanted to make sure she got one that I have used so if she had any questions she could call me for help. The guy behind the counter asked her if she wanted to go to jail and he was not willing to sell her a gun. She was confused and left not knowing why he had snapped at her and been so very rude. I heard this through the cellphone Mic and though I could not be sure I assume it was loud enough to embarrass her in front of other customers.

The problem will solve itself when dicks losses all it's customers. the corporate doesn't care, they are more than happy to destroy their businesses . I know a lot of good people work for dicks that are just following orders and its a shame that they will all probably lose their jobs.

A corporate mismanagement can cause all sorts of employee behavioral problems. Don't be mad at the employees but don't take crap from them either. Leave and find a new ffl

I would have told him no problem, I'll just go to the gun store down the street and buy it there with all the ammo, cleaning kit, case, etc. and walked out. Seeing a sale walk out the door is the ultimate F U.

Nope, I'm asian. I think the 1st sales guy, self proclaimed redneck, was intimidated my by khaki booni, black shirt, khaki shorts and tactical high speed low drag flip flops and my under 5 foot in her 50s mom. I didn't know this combo would set off straw sale alarms. The only reason why we went there was cause my mom had gotten her hunting certification class done on saturday and we were looking a semiauto 20 ga.
