Legalities and BS story aside, if I got hit on the head and knocked down and the guy is rushing towards me I'm going to shot him. A warning shot doesn't really show you were in much fear for your life and you hit somebody else you will be in trouble.

I heard oohs and ahhs as I fell to the ground and somehow landed on my back 7 or 8 feet away from my attacker. He the rushed me with both hands forward so I pulled my concealed pistol out and pulled the trigger 3 times rapidly while pointed at his chest. The gun didnt fire so I immediately yelled the words freeze! so that he could see that I had a weapon. He backed up giving me time to get back on my feet. This is where i realized the safty was still on. I stepped back with my weapon pointed towards the ground and he rushes towards me again so I fired a round into the ground near he feet. He then immediately jumped into a push up position as I backed away and got the hell out of the area.

Thank you for all your comments. This happened in the state of Washington in 1994. I was 24 years old and carrying a S&W model 4006. Look it up! It was a dual action and purchased because of its safety features. I liked to carry it in my waist band right above my penis. No jokes please and yes I still have it. Still to this day I have vivid memories of the scenario and actually trembled when posting this thread. I feel for those who have been in combat or in similar situations. PTSD is FOR REAL! It makes you paranoid and very proactive. I want to take Zimmerman's side but being in a worse situation and not having to kill dude, I think the young boy could still have his life. My first reaction was to put 3 big holes in this guys chest and be alive to see my kids grow. The second option only became available to me because I forgot to take the safety off. For those who criticize this accident, please understand that in WA, you don't have to take a class to get a conceal weapons permit. You only need to be 21 have a clean record and $50 bucks.
Well at least back in 1991. Maybe next time, I'll be more prepared. Now lets talk about the guy doing push-ups. If you've ever seen those prison shows where a fight breaks out in the yard and tear gas is fired you would know. This guy moved just like that. He responded to "freeze" like he was well accustomed to it. Firing the shot on the ground would probably be a felony in the state of California.

Remedial instruction and practice are in order, if this is what happened.
my trigger finger was vibrating, searching, testing, it was looking for a kickback. This happened with milliseconds.

He rushed you those 7-8 feet and you had time to draw and fire 3 times? Most people are not getting a gun out in 2 seconds or less, much less anyone hit hard enough to move 7-8 feet. A guy closing those 7-8 feet could do it faster than you can click-click-click

you had the wherewithal to yell freeze, but not to defeat your safety? Please tell me you practice laying on the ground yelling freeze and not drawing and removing the safety.

So you fired at the ground and the man jumped into the area that you were firing at? Not back, not left, not right, but the only other direction available to a human...into the path of the bullet just fired?
                      Good observations...

My first time getting jacked and not becoming a victim. I'd say I did a good job.

Rape is a felony. He could have also taken my gun and shot me with it. when you carry a gun, you have more **** to think about. Its a full time job.

Like my neighbor, after a while you will start to believe your own b.s.

                          Some of his stories included,

Skydiving with a shoot that did not open. Not once, but 6 times.

Doing a halo jump into West Germany to dispatch the chancellor.

Being a tunnel rat in Vietnam. My neighbor weighed 285 pounds.

Taking out 6-7 Irvine police, in the station while handcuffed.

                          Being a gynecologist.

                          Being a brain surgeon.

Lots of blood and guts war stories . He never went to war, but he almost lost his cookies when I cut myself working on my Harley.

If you are doing this for entertainment, your going to have to be way more creative to entertain anyone with an I.Q.

Madjack.. If I sat down and told you all of my life experiences, you'd probably want to hang out with me.
