Ammo Shortage: What did we learn?

I'm not sure what your point is OP, but this is definitely not the first ammo shortage of our lifetime.

True, it's the first time I'm been impacted by the ammo shortage, the others seem like a blip on the radar compared to the current situation.

Points:
1. Keep ammo on hand
2. Own a 12 Gauge

So what i got out of this is OP is going to sell his "regular caliber guns" and keep the 38, 44, 357, etc??? If so then dibs!!!

It definitely changed my perspective on, "how much is enough."

I learned I should have bought a .45GAP. It never ran out and was cheaper than 9x19 and .45ACP.

Also Walmart always seemed to have .45 Colt and .410 so maybe that should be on my list.

i realized i could cast and reload 9mm cheaper than the the 22lr people were generously offering for sale during our time of need

The issue that people should have learned is to buy guns and ammo cheaply over time, plus learn to reload if you can. I learned my lesson in 08', it is stacked deep in all my calibers and I have the capability to re-load it all(except shotgun). The re-election of our fearless leader(loser) and his comments on gun bans started the fire. The newtown and colorado tragedies struck our nation, which fueled the fire into a blaze. This all created drive on the market which was exacerbated by people buying up stacks of ammo to feed their new black rifles, pistols and shotguns. The market dried up quick because the ammo manufacturers "normal" production could not keep up with the unreal demand. In short, fear and greed created this situation; which everyone has fallen subject to, except the prepared. So, the last lesson everyone should have learned is to be prepared for any situation because who the heck knows what will happen next.

I haven't learned anything new except for the fact that most people prefer to live their lives unprepared and then beach about the fact that they are stupid.

The '08 shortage was worse than this one has been to date. But, neither really affected me or my shooting except for that one panic purchase of 16lbs of Varget for $158/8lbs shipped that I made back in the last shortage. It was probably $1.50 or so a pound more than I should have paid.

Edit: I also learned that people will continually start threads beaching about the shortage and complain about the high prices during panic buying but, as soon as it is over, they won't stock up while supply is high and prices are low.

Ammo Shortage: What did we learn?

Not sure what others learned, but I didn't learn a thing; however, I was vindicated, validated, and had 20/20 before there was ever a hindsight.

Oh look, there is a grasshopper foraging for ammo outside my window. He doesn't appear to be finding anything, the poor sap. Looks cold out there.

Diversify. Have a few less popular caliber guns so you can shoot them for fun while controlling the valuable popular stuff. 7.62 nagant seemed to be available the whole time, but I don't have one of those revolvers.

I have started to focus on one caliber and that is 9mm. During the crunch, ammo prices were high and it looks like they are recovering a bit. I also noticed during that time, 12 ga was fairly plentiful as well as my choice for high power rifle, 7mm Remington Magnum.

I learned from my Dad and older family members, that there was no ammo to be had during World War 2.

I learned to buy it cheap and stock it deep! I learned that prices are always going up! And that casting boolits was a good thing.

I learned that it was a good thing that I had lots of primers in the primer shortage of 94.

I learned that it was a good thing to have lots of primers, powders, and ammo during the shortage of 2008. And that the people who called me crazy were the ones crying like little girls!

I learn that in the ammo shortage of 2013 that most folks did not learn from history. They cried like little girls. And felt that it was unfair that I had all of the ammo that I could shoot! I also learned that most folks will not be ready for the next shortage!!!!!

2. Sell all of it next time panic happens except 100 rounds
3. Find new hobby in meantime and wait for panic to subside with all my new money!
