RECORD ALL YOUR SERIAL #'s !!!

If you haven't done so already. It takes all of 30 seconds to jot every thing down and another 30 seconds to take photos. In the event of a burglary, fire, marriage problems, "martial law" like our canadian friends in Calgary are experiencing, or accidental swaps at the range as I have read recently here, having a record of everything you own will reduce many headaches.

I use this software: http://mygundb.com/ It is free up to 10 firearms. They even have a phone edition. You can export reports and csv excel spreadsheets along with importing photos.

Why would I want a trackable and hackable record of my guns?

Trackable? No. Hackable? Extremely unlikely. Encrypt your database if you are so inclined. It would be naive to leave your data butt-naked.

I must be old school and outdated because I used a piece of ruled white paper and a black ink ball point pen to do this. No need to go to a website.

Its not a website that stores your data people... It's a SOFTWARE PROGRAM stored locally in an encrypted database on your computer. YOU are in control of your data, nobody else.

just printed out a few hard copies, multiple times deleted the info, no name, just model & #

left 2 in the safe, 1 in each BOB, 1 copy in 3 friends' safes, 2 copies out of state in a file

OK, no need for software. Just write the information down on a piece of paper. I started doing this 25 years ago and added new guns as I bought them. This is something that is really simple and easy, and I'm still wondering why software is needed for this task. Maybe the paper and pen route is for people like me and the software is for people with other skills.

I use evernote. Pretty easy to take a picture and type the s/n right from my phone. Stored in the cloud and retrievable from any device if needed for insurance.

I do the same. I add a scan of the receipt for the gun as well as any optics of accessories. I have a firearms rider on my homeowners policy, but it still isn't much.

I took pictures of each serial number and uploaded them to photobucket. Also have a short video of the inside of my house and it's contents uploaded.

Chance of being hacked? Sure. But if there was ever a catastrophic event/ fire where the records in my house were destroyed, I can retrieve them from the cloud.

I use a simple WORD Document with an unrelated title and I bury the serial # in the text descibing each gun.
Hacker would have to through every WORD document on my computer to get this info.

I just write them on paper, put them in a condom and swallow it. Like the cloud I have access anywhere I go, and I don't need a signal.
