    Started on my gun room

Decided to build a gun room where I can 'hide' my safe and firearms. Yes I know why build a hiding place and then post it on a public forum yada yada yada.

House is in a gated community, has motion sensors, 13 cameras and an alarm system where the company is on notice to always send police when it goes off. Yes I know I get charged for this and yes I get a bill 2-3 times a year. There hasn't been a home robbery in my complex ever since the houses were built in 2002. Were at the foothills with nothing above us and only one road in. Basicalyl unless you live around there you don't drive on the street.

This isn't a super secret James bond room it's a deterrent only. Just like a safe. If someone wants something I have then nothing with stop them from trying.

    Yes it isn't fire proof
Yes I know governer brown was just handed a folder with my name on it for a raid
Yes I know the Chicoms will find me when they invade

Now that all that is out of the way I'll get to the room and its design. I know I'll stick catch flack but oh well, this isn't a tin foil hat room

Our house has a built in temperature controlled wine cellar. I basically cut the shelving off and made the room 1/3 the size it was which the remaining 'hidden' part makes up the other 2/3 part.

    Before:

    Progress so far:

Not getting into specifics but this is not a 2x4 drywall faux wall. It's strong. It's also setup where you cannot tell there is a void of space and you cannot just smash any wall on either side to gain access.
There will be no door handle
    There are no large seams
There will be no visible door hinges, they are all internal heavy duty hidden hinges.

No premade door, frame etc was used, it's all being custom done.

The door locking mechanism is many parts:
1200lb secured magnetic lock (secured means when power goes out it stays locked.
    Battery backup system.
Hidden in another room key card AND 8 digit code. Meaning you can't use just the code or just the key card.
This door is also being wired into our alarm system.

Our house has solar and we are currently awaiting install of a battery system which will power our house for 48 hours. With this and the battery backup I'm not worried about the magnetic lock.

Inside will also be a vertical gun rack which a Calgun member is making, It's made out of steel with a locking bar. This will be mounted to the wall studs and secured with a lock.

That's it for now, I'll update as I get time to tinker. Right now I am on my third door, keep running into issues and since nothing is standard I am making the doors myself. The hinges are the issue, they are big, require almost 2" deep precision formed holes in the frame.

Cool man, I wish I had the room to do something like that

My original plan was to remove the entire cellar and put a backwards swinging bookshelf but my wife wasn't as happy with that plan.

Man, that is sweet. I wish I had a cellar room. Of course, my wife wouldn't like me converting part of it for a gun safe.

Screw those that give you flake. You can't please everyone, especially on CG.

My only concern is where do you keep the cigars and whiskey? But in seriousness, I'm assuming the door frame will be solid steel/concrete?

              Nice OP.

If I can ask, where did you source those hidden hinges? I may or may not have a hidden room at a house I may have never even visited, but I may not be happy with the present setup.

Because of the weight I use 4 of them. I could have used 3 but I went with 4.

I have one room in our house that my wife let me use as I want. This is also the only room I got to pick the colors out for. So in all macho manly man style I chose a camo paint job

Not steel/concrete, just heavily built with almost solid wood. Also since the door will be swinging towards you and will take the entire space you see it will be almost impossible to kick in. Especially since it will have a metal stop and the magnetic lock on the other side.

You said it wasn't fire proof, are you going to put some fire retardant around it? I thought there was a spray or something you can put inside walls to slow fires. It might last long enough for the FD to get there.
