My experience has been to provide details on firearms I own... And I did. I guess it depends on one's comfort level with giving such info. But from what I gathered, I needed to give such info for coverage.

I pay $15 per month for $15k coverage on my firearms. Don't know if I am overpaying but I am good with that premium. Btw, I also have a safe where I store my firearms... Safe + insurance give me the peace of mind I need.

I have USAA's valuable property insurance for all of my guns and I wasn't asked about serial numbers. I simply said what it was and the value online and I had a policy.

Guns in the home: How insurance works

I would very leery of anything based loosely on phone conversation alone that sounds too good to be true.

Could make the difference between a timely commensurate settlement after a loss vs a huge dissapointment.

And please remember, the basic UL rated RSC is a mere nuisance to someone after a high dollar collection. Unless you have an actual 'safe' rated TL-15 or above, you are simply managing a risk.

Your dice, your roll.. good luck.
The link just goes to a home page of articles, with no mention of guns.

Collectibles Insurance provides coverage for a reasonable cost. Under a certain value, you do not have to identify any firearm, but over that value, you have to provide make and model, no serial number.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, in practice, there is.

I talked to USAA about this in February and havent gotten around to doing it yet (lazy me)
I was told a little differently, that they didn't need too many details about any of the firearms as long as they were under 10k.
For those tha were over 10k, I'd have to take it to a gun dealer to get a statement on its value for insurance purposes.
Keep in mind to ask about firearms accessories, I realized i have lots of extra crap that adds up the value of a basic firearm (S&B/Zeiss scopes, acogs, blahblah) Adds up quickly!

We were talking about some high value guns and they needed info on those. I think at that time they needed info on any item over $2500. Also that was over 10 years ago so maybe they changed their policy.

my brother has been contemplating adding his firearms through his renters policy with AAA. they want make, model, caliber, serial, pictures, AND an appraisal for each firearm.
                      I don't own any guns...they're dangerous.

I didn't even get that far with AAA. They rejected me because I have an EvilBlackRotweiler.

Wawanesa, AAA, USAA, and the rest.

Are all insurance companies, built to take premiums and not pay claims. Their companies are built on investing your premiums in stuff you have no idea about, and their investment section is many times the premium and claim sections. Employee high risers in insurance leave premium and claims and go to investment. Your "agent" is a salesman who is dreaming of better, which means leaving you holding a bag.

Do not take the word of anyone on the phone, as has been mentioned. Read your policy, call for clarification, and get that in writing.

If confused, read the italicized part above.
