NRA, GOA, CA specific group ???

Hi all, I hope that my search skills were sufficient and that I am not beating a dead horse by starting this thread.

Anyways, I am getting more active in shooting again these days. I am really enjoying it. I am starting to also be more politically involved in general. So here is my question. Given that I cannot afford to join them all, (I can't even afford to shoot as much as I would like.)
Which is the best guns rights advocacy group to join for a CA resident?

From what I found in the searches here it seems that most Calgun members favor the NRA over GOA, while I have seen other opinions elsewhere.

Also, would my money be more effective if I join a CA specific group instead of a national one, and which one of those is recomended. I haven't found much info on CA specific groups by searching here or on google. (possibly because I don't know names of CA specific orgs to research.)

So any input would be greatly appreciated. Either on NRA vs GOA, or National vs State. I just want to make what little I can afford to set aside for a rights advocacy group to count and not just make me feel better.

    Thanks, Noah

IMHO your money is best sent to NRA. They have been very active here in CA. The only CA only organizations are GOC and CRPA both of which seem to have a habit of shooting us in the collective foot.
In any type of fight, & especially gun fights, there are no winners ..... just varying degrees of losers. The only fight you win is the one you never get into.

If it's an organization that has paid memberships, go with the organization that is accountable to the membership. An organization with bylaws and a means of changing them, voting for Board of directors, etc.

So the NRA is the way to go, over the CA specific groups. Thanks for the input.

Are there some that take $ but don't have the accountability, ones that I should be aware of?

              thedrickel,
This looks very good. I always like seeing the little guy get some help.
First and foremost I want to contribute to something more politically oriented, However when my work picks up more this summer I will definitely remember to donate something to the Calguns Foundation.

Is there a thread that goes into more detail about what the "Bright Spot Pawn" story is all about?

              Thnks again, Noah

                Noah, welcome to the Forum!

And not to sound like a prick, but the search function is very effective and the database is full of all kinds of goodies! Yes, you will find multiple threads re: the incident at BSP....

Lastly, give your money to the NRA.

Don't give either of them a cent.

After seeing the calnra site I have no qualms about it.
I will be joining the NRA. Also There is a members council currently forming right in my home county.
If I ever have the extra money maybe I'll also join GOA. Also, The NRA annual cost is less than I thought it would be, so I think I'll send a check to CG foundatio too.
Anyways, your 15 steps are awesome!
I have already started on a few, (getting friends & family involved and educated) I am teaching my first child to shoot this year. We have already been talking about guns and gun/range safety, and I am looking forward to our first trip out together. I can still remember my father teaching me like it was yesterday.
I also will follow with a few more of the 15 immediately. I was quite surprised by http://www.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?ID=15 ,really is amazing how few people/groups have no clue.

for Paladin, you now have another well directed activist to take credit for.
