Maybe a committee should be formed to which sellers would submit their proposed ad to for review. After a minimum of eight hours discussion on whether the price was just right and not too high or too low. The members would take a vote on whether to post the ad or reject the ad with suggested changes to make before the seller resubmits the ad.

Also to ensure that everyone has a "fair" shot at claiming the item for sale. Ads should only be posted by the committee at 1 am on days of a waxing gibbous.

Then after I or other honest Calgunner PM the seller about the error of their ways and the seller withdraws the item for sell we get allot of colloquy crying babies complaining about ethics and honest business practices about not honoring the for sale price.....while not mentioning that they knew the item was worth way more than they were offering and could easily sell for such. Then we get all the pouting, crying, name calling, and whining (like that spoiled little child at the supermarket wanting his candy) in hopes it will affect a normal adult into giving in under the childish behaviour and cave in and sell it at way below market price which they probably learned to do as children when they threw a tantrum and cried out loud incessantly to get their parents to buy them candy bars. Somehow those buyers consider that all ethical and normal behaviour.
Sellers are free to list their goods at whatever price they see fit. If they're too naive, stupid or lazy to research the marketplace it's not our fault or business. The seller bears responsibility for their actions. Listing something for too little money and yanking it is poor form as is committing to buy and backing out.

Many people peruse from real jobs. Losing out because you didn't see the deal in time is part of life.

We're adults. We're responsible for our own actions and bear the responsibility of researching price/value/etc. so as not to get ripped off as a buyer or a seller. It's not my business to interfere in another member's transaction. I don't know their story or why a high or low price makes sense for them.

It is unethical to post an item for sale at <insert price you are comfortable with here, lower than what it is worth> and then retract the sale after someone says they will take it.

Calguns is not slanted to be pro-purchaser nor pro-seller. We try to lay an even grounds here, and hope that we don't have people backstabbing with "you could get $XX more than you offered it for" or "you paid $XX too much" etc..

The bottom line: If the seller posts an item at $XXX, and the buyer agrees to buy at $XXX, then both parties are happy and shouldn't be subject to harrassment by pissy, cheap, opportunistic, know-it-all, back-stabbing, thread-crapping, or other similar types of members, and we work to prevent such harrassment from happening.

There was a for sale thread that should have been looked at. Should I post the pertinent info?

The funny thing is, the two times somebody PM'd me to tell me my prices were out of line they were wrong because they were confused about the item being sold. The first time somebody sent a PM saying my "Turkish Mauser" was overpriced and gave a bunch of links to other Turkish Mausers being sold for less. The only problem was that the rifle was a Czech built M98/22 that had seen Turkish service and not one of the models of Turkish built rifles that he had linked to. The second time somebody was trying to help me out by letting me know the asking price for the Yugo 8mm I was selling was too low. But he was confusing it with the Yugo M75 sniper ammo and I was selling M49 regular ammo. It was nice that he was trying to be helpful, but he was mistaken. I also sometimes see people thread crap on other people's listings about the price of a rare variant of a firearm that usually sells for much less, not realizing that the particular one being offered is worth more than standard versions.

So I guess what I'm saying is don't thread crap, but if you do, at least be sure you know what you are talking about.
No, I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

Sometimes people just want to sell an item quickly, so list it below market value. In your world this is naive. In my world it's called doing what I want.

Researching the marketplace. First, all those books that list the going price for guns are pretty much out dated by the time they are printed. Second, Gunbroker is fine for finding out how much new guns are going for, but that's about it. Auctions tell you how much dealers are willing to pay for used firearms.

Sounds like you bitter because other folks with more free time than you, are able to jump on deals occassionally. Well I jump on deals all the time and I don't find them online.

That is still thread crapping, doing it via PM just acknowledges that you know it's not allowed and want to circumvent the rules.
You'd be surprised how many people forward PMs to me asking if what was sent to them was 'okay to do'. Were I to be forwarded a backhanded thread crap PM I would have to presume that you knowingly choose to break the rules and tried to be sneaky about it. The response could range from shutting off PMs permanently for that member, blocking the Marketplace from them or outright banning them.
Getting clever with the rules tends to enhance the results.

I'm on here almost all day at work.

                    How 'meaningful' is my job?
Do you have the slightest CLUE?

Do you even realize just how obnoxious and arrogant that comment is?

So, what do you have to say about me being on all day at work?
                    I'm waiting....

Then after I or other honest Calgunner
So who is the arbiter of which Calgunners are honest and which are not?

This statement basically implies that most here are NOT honest. Congrats, you've just insulted the majority of the forum.
Again, pretty arrogant don't you think?

Frankly the obnoxious, arrogance and self-importance of your post would make the task pleasant.

Like many have mentioned this before... Do your homework on what ever you are thinking of buying before you commit to buy. If a person wants to sell a rock for $1000 and someone buys that rock for $1000, more power to the seller, maybe the buyer really wanted that rock...

Everyone here is way too uptight.

                                They need a hobby.

Shooting is a good one. It relieves stress.

Seriously, this is just weird. If people can't click two forums over and post, "what's a good deal on XXX?" before buying or, "what's the market on XXX?"

I will add there are a lot of people here who, clearly, think that CA should be like every other state. It's just not reality. I think it's hilarious that people are posting $2k+ HK45's, but obviously it's the value.

To put it in perspective, those guns are rare here. Guns that are even more rare and will never increase their numbers in CA (out of production guns) also have a big premium. This, IMHO, is no different than NFA items. An M16 lower is worth about $150, but what you can legally do with it adds $10k+. In CA being able to pick up, say, a Python adds a premium, as well.

I see every side of the "I want things best for me" in this thread: one guy complains people are selling too cheap and he can't get the deals because others are online more, another complains things are too expensive because they're less out of state, etc. etc. etc...

I do my best to both help fellow Calgunners out and to get something out of it for myself. Honorable business transactions. However, there's nothing dishonorable about wanting to make a profit, short of fraud.

I get the feeling everyone expects communism when it comes to their purchases (cheap, available to all), but full bore capitalism if it's their time to sell.
