DMV test is actually available in something like 53 languages. Handgun test is only available in Spanish and English. Of course, you can always have it read to you orally. (Not that it would help you in Mandarin)

Well, shouldn't the proponents of these laws be focused on providing equal treatment, rather than creating new anti-laws? Where are their priorities?

If they can't Speak, Read & Write the English language they shouldn't be here in the first place.

I don't know about you but I don't want anyone that can't communicate in the language of the country to own or posses a firearm.

I'm with you on the principal that someone here should make every attempt at learning English. However, if self-defense is a natural right, then it should be available to everyone, not just english speakers. So, I'd rather there was no test at all, over one that was available in only one or two languages. Incidently, this doesn't apply to long arms anyway.

Was just pointing out the stupidity of any test limiting rights even more. (Edited for clarification)

Was remembering the discussion in Sacramento when the handgun test was proposed and how many of the law-makers were 'freaking out' since they both 1) wanted to avoid being labeled as racist, and 2) wanted to avoid the millions to produce that silly little test in multiple languages.

I don't like the test at all, but on principal it seems contrary to me to have the test for handgun ownership in 1-2 languages (right) over Driver's license in 53 languages (a non-right). Shouldn't a 'right' have more access than a privilege? (shrug)

[QUOTE=artthestampede;1010711When I buy guns they always require the car registration or utility bills [/QUOTE]

??? I have never heard of needing secondary proof for a firearm. I have bought 3 guns and all showed them was an ID card, since i do not have a driver licence. Then went though a background check. Anyone else heard of this secondary proof?

Been in effect at least a year. Not sure when it went into effect. Had to show secondary info last rifle I bought in November. Found out the hard way my credit card, and cell phone bill didn't count. (Apparently has to be a car registration, or utility bill).

You need proof of residency for a handgun DROS. Long gun DROS only requires a DL or ID card.

You're probably right on that, I seem to remember picking up a few things last fall, and a couple were handguns. Probably just confused.

This is correct. They need to copy it for their files in case of audit. Also, any lease will do, I know people that live with family and just drew something up.
