Because I know the hide of the mention animals being killed by 5.56. Black bears, deer, hogs doesn't have impenetrable skins, Cape buffalo and other dangerous game has thick hides and a ton of meat to penetrate before reaching vitals. A .223 can penetrate medium game hide and into vitals to kill it. That is what some people tend to ignore and only look at size of caliber vs bullet construction.Knowing MY shooting and MY rifle, whats the difference between a 2k lb animal and a 300-400lb piece of rawhide with some major teeth coming at you faster than you can run??? Thats what is being promoted here.
When I say know your gun, you better have known all the little details of its cartridge and bullet designs. When I say know your skills, you better know the animal your after and it's anatomy before going after it along with your shooting and hunting ability.Originally posted by GottmitunsIt's not protecting the rights of the 1%, it's IMPOSING new laws because of the 1%.Comment

And I do know my gun, ability, and game but they're also under the best situations. Under stress of coming upon a raging animal that you startled on accident, what would you grab to shoot an animal such as a 300 pound hog? Would it be a bow, .223, or other round of choice. I NEVER said you can't kill a pig with a .223 or anything about BOW FREAKING ARROWS either. I simply ask basic questions of ability, round penetration and foot pounds of kinetic energy, the ability to get through the tough parts in a bad situation such as crush a skull, enter a major cavity that is tough to get through, and possibly multiple shots like this quickly. Since we are all challenged on here by Diesel to think, I've done just this. Nobody in their right mind would want to be in that situation with only a .223 unless they're an idiot. Most people would want a good, fast medium caliber round with good ft lbs of energy and something quickly repeatable. Must be these photos I've seen of brand new AR's and one scene too many of COD and their shiny new toy in the back of their mind thinking they can pop off a 500lb pig with one well placed shot any day of the week. Hmmmmm..................maybe my imagination is just running wild.Comment

That's all fine and good. Here's the reality of the situation... ever since the dawn of weapons, young boys dream of the hunt, of battle and they worship the tools used in both. And I do know my gun, ability, and game but they're also under the best situations. Don't blame COD for what you see. Its been going on for thousands of years. Let nature take it's course...there isn't much you can do about it any way.
Let me give you yet another analogy OF THIS THREAD AND OF OUR OPINION...
The world...flat or round?
I "think" the world is flat. That's what I have been told.
I "feel" the world is flat. That feeling has been past down to me and I am a great white lion hunter...
I know from science and the experience of trained world navigators the world is round.
I have sailed the oceans and traveled the over land. Its been shown to be round.
There is the debate here... those of you with "feelings" and those of us with facts.
Right now there are MILLIONS of hunters using bows. To say you believe a .223 can't do the job...when a bow does this job fine.... negates your argument. You now have to bring in all sorts of things not intended in this debate.
I can do what you are doing too... There is no freaking way your 308, or .50 cal is going to drop a 747 out of the sky. There is no way your 6.8spc is going to drop that elk at 2000 yards... see what I did there.... its exactly what you are doing.Comment

Please just admit you are basing your "feelings" and opinion that the .223 can't get the job done from some old guy at the gun store or what your daddy told you.
Its not fact. Its not even believable since we now have access to this page...
Intelligent search from Bing makes it easier to quickly find what you’re looking for and rewards you.
if a BOW can do it... a .223 can too.
it is that simple....
and for pics of dead hogs via a .223

Sounds like pure logic, science and reason to me. I would not take a shot that far, but I know others who could very easy.Comment

Hmmm
For all the years I've hunted pigs with a .223, no ones uneducated opinion in here is going to change what I know to be a fact and try and change it into fantasy. If you're not familiar with your weapon, your game, or your skill level, then I would stick to paper targets until you are."When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty"Comment
