Wow, a 3k gun...somebody stop the presses! I had no idea a gun could cost that much! It must be the most expensive gun in the world.

    /sarcasm off

    Dumb businessman is dumb.

You should go back with whatever you buy and rack/dry fire it for the guy.

Lose a sale or lose your job... pick one...gee wonder what a clerk will do?

My shop has a standing rule. No guest in the working area....period.. end of story... I don't care how much money they are spending. I have fired 3 people for violating his rule...and everyone knows it. Any accident in the working area where a non-employee is injured and I am out of business...period... end of story.

Now please look into your line of work. I know for a freaking fact there is a rule NONE of your employees or you can violate no matter what the "customer" wants. If you can't understand the clerks point of view...once again I am sorry for you.

The clerk explained the rule and the OP walked out...I would have laughed at him too. Look at Mr. Big man who wants me to get fired so he can play with a gun... are you kidding me?

Once again... if the OP had slap some cash or plastic on the table and I bet the zip tie would have come off... he was at fault here... not the clerk. He was doing his job.
The situation explains it all? Ok, click the back button on your browser and actually read the brief dialogue the OP posted. At what point did the salesman or "clerk" make an effort to politely and tactfully explain to the client ( the OP) who actually was willing to make a purchase that he is "willing" and would appreciate a chance to make a sale but appologize that his shop has rules and so on. but no! This idiot that you are defending ,and I'm sure your attitude toward your clients are no different, arrogantly spews that he cant touch an Ed brown and insults the client into leaving.

I used some key words here and maybe you might learn a thing or two. Here it goes: tact. Yes that is important in sales. You need to tactfully and warmly communicate to a potential client. You say the clerk explained a rule. Well neither one of us was there to know exactly how he explained it but at this point I only have the OP's story and have to go by that. And by that the clerk and you are wrong. According to you a client should open your store's door and quickly pull out cash or his cards and throw it at you. Only then they are worthy of your time.

      Good luck to you.

Oh and don't pm me. You're not worth helping.

I ****en hate that place! If I'm going to overpay for a gun, I'll go to Guns Direct!

They did the same thing to me with a CZ. I ended up buying one for the exact same price down the street; literally!

You're absolutely right. On a 3k gun nobody wants one that's got wear on it, superficial or not.

Dry fire/trigger pull will cause scrapes on the side of the aluminum trigger and the hammer of course will have wear from contact.

Sure, all superficial wear, but done enough, the gun will not look pristine.

That gives room for people to say, you gotta discount the price, it looks used.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here and guess that you've never owned a retail store that sold high end merchandise? Am I right? I can see your point but if you have ever owned a retail store you would know how how many yahoos come in on a regular basis that just want to finger your cool merchandise with no intention of buying it. Sometimes you guess wrong but 95% of the time you guess right. Just because some other store let you finger their items doesn't mean anything, maybe a $3k gun isn't a big deal to them but to this shop they might be working with a lot less and a $1k hit would hurt them while the other store is used to it. I've seen idiots drop my expensive merchandise (what I consider expensive) and were confident they didn't want to buy it anyways and then say sorry and walk away. If he doesn't know you, how is he supposed to know you aren't one of them?

yeah ok .... The other day the singer Pink contacted me. She then used a cell phone to call Captain Kirk and had Scotty beam her back to the ship. She was on a mission for an upcoming war with the Klingon empire... How freaking rude of her to not say goodbye as they beamed her up. I am never working with her Agent again. If they can't have the common decency to respect others, I want no part of them.

How much of that do you think is true?

He said, she said...who is right? Most of the time its neither side. Do I think the Clerk was rude...probably so. Do I think the OP described the situation was it actually occurred...No. I think he thinks that's how it went down...but I bet dollars to donuts the clerk has another story.

Hi Glockfu, if you are taking a stab at me, the OP, then you should try a much sharper knife next time. . I have many years expense working retail/ customer service work. In fact, the reason the crappy salesmanship and rudeness of the guy at gun world ticked me off so much is that I KNOW what it takes to make a customer happy. I have dealt with happy, sad, infuriated and just plain @$$ customers. I made decisions all day long regarding what was and was not a worthwhile risk for the inventory I was in charge of, that inventory, even the absolute cheapest of which, was worth multiple times what that gun was worth.

If he is a salesman and he doesn't know the customer, he is supposed to find out about them, initiate small talk, ask probing questions and attempt to MAKE A SALE. The conversation was exactly as I typed it originally, the guy was rude, unwilling to help, and didn't
Care to sell anything. We left and will never be back.

It's too bad for them, the next shop we went to, where they were polite and helpful got the sale. The wife got a new 1911 and guess what, I ended up buying a rifle at the same time when I saw one I liked. The next time I am looking for something in the firearms category guess which shop I will be going back to despite the 1 1/2 hour drive to get there...

The reason I and probably everyone else here doesn't respect your opinion is because you (as stated above) obviously assume everyone to be lying. What I wrote is exactly what happened and what was said. Will the clerk have a different story when he talks I his boss, of course, he blew a sale. He is going to make up some BS about how he tried to make a sale but the customer was obviously not there to buy anything. Judging by your view of salesmanship and how to run a business I am sure you get stories like that from your employees all the time.

This same thing happened to me a few months ago. It was my first and last time doing a PPT at gun world. I was also told they don't accept your car registration as proof of current address. Your DL must have the current address or they won't start DROS. Another reason to never step foot in this place again. Not to mention their prices are ridiculous.

I would disagree. Maybe you are not LEGALLY/FINANCIALLY responsible and maybe YOU would walk away after destroying property belonging to someone else, but that is not what should happen and is not what I am accustomed to doing.

I am a customer, it is not my job to sell the product to myself, it is the salespersons job to sell the product. If the sale is conditional upon testing the trigger and the operation of the slide, then the salesperson should go ask if they were truly required to. The manager can always come tell me no if that is the final answer. The salesperson didn't make any attempt to make a sale and I don't need to deal with the guy who doesn't want or care to make a sale to the point of being rude.

And yes, "liking" the trigger and slide of a $3k firearm IS a condition of buying it.

And lets put this into perspective a little, the day before at Martin B. Retting, despite being slammed with customers, the salesman took out every 1911 my wife wanted to try, set them up with snap caps, and let her rack the slide and dry fire them all one after the other to feel the difference between them.

                              See you are clumsy, lol.

You still didnt buy it though right? lol

I don't think you are lying. I think the clerk would have a different story then you do...and he isnt lying either.

                                What is MORE probable
                                1) A guy who sells guns for a living doesnt want to sell a $3,000 gun to a ready and willing buyer
                                or
                                2) A guy who sells guns for a living didnt think you were serious and figured you for a fool not worth his time.

One of those two things happened. There is no other explanation besides discrimination.

Your story is, "a guy didnt want to sell you a $3,000 gun." I find that hard to believe...so I imagine #2 is the more probable explanation...which leads me to the conclusion you didnt present yourself very well.

The sooner you face a mirror the better off you will be. You caused some of this... If you feel otherwise you need to call the store and report the clerk to the Owners for I think they would want to know a clerk refused to sell you a firearm.
