Got a call from a FFL today

If it was the other way around and the 8th was the pickup date and wrote 6th, the FFL would have a problem with the date not being ten days. Not everyone picks up on day 10. So why should there be any problem at all. The paperwork should be just fine and if they just left it as it is no one would have any reason to question it. Probably has more to do with their internal store policy which at this point doesn't sound very reasonable. They should just fix it and move on.

I think you might have skimmed the thread too quickly. The date error was made on the PICK UP. I took the gun home on the 6th but wrote the 8th next to my name when I signed for the final time.

The shop didn't notice this until the 12th, and then called me.

A couple weeks ago, I drove over two hours, each way, to pick up a PPT at an un-named gunshop in Taft. Some red headed dude in Crocks helped me and gave me my gun. A couple days went by and I got a call from a nice lady (or the ugly redhead doing a great impersonation of a female voice) telling me that there was a problem with the paperwork and asking me to help clear up the discreprency. I think I was able to clear it up with a return phone call. If I had needed to go all the way back to the shop, it wouldn't have been until Quail season starts. If it needed to be done sooner, a courier service would have probably been involved.

I'm not a FFL, but I think the paperwork has to match their books.

If the only party in danger of prosecution is the FFL, would documenting their efforts to correct the error suffice to get them out of trouble? Something like phone records should be enough, shouldn't it? Another thing I'm missing is why not just have them send you the paperwork via registered mail and you correct the error then send it back to them. Seems like the the least inconvenience to both party.

Or I wonder how the DOJ or ATF would know you crossed out the 8 and put a six and put your initials or the FFL crossed out the 8 and put a six and put your initials or even the FFLs inititals? Nothing says the person buying the firearm has to fill out the 4473. Yes they need to sign it, but who says you can't fill it out for your customer? So if anyone can fill it out, anyone can fix it (save signatures and thumb prints on DROS).
