Shocked? Really? When I lived in Kalifornia, My daughters made sure their weapons were locked, loaded and next to their bed every night, and unloaded and locked up in the safe before going to school every day.
I have no need to keep weapons from my kids.
They have both been asked about guns by the doctor sometimes during check ups. They have both told the doctor that it's none of her business. Strange that I've never been asked, but that's how they do it. Get the kid away from the parent and ask the kid questions. Both of my kids have told the Dr. to "knock it off with the questions, and just do the check up". Last time I told their doctor that asking my kids "personal" questions, is unacceptable. The Doctor said "Yeah, I got that impression from both of them". That was the end of the questions. You just need to inform them that you're the parent, not they.
