When they offer me a low ball, I just politely tell them do NOT pm me again. The Gods are listening cuz it works.

Market place low baller's

Ok i get what you are saying but I think that their are a lot of sellers that don't know what their stuff is worth. Case in point the guys selling Ruger LCP's for $450 and $500 for a used gun
. I offered $350 and they both were not happy with my "low ball offer" so i just went over to the commercial post area and paid $400 OTD including dros for the SAME gun. So good luck selling that lcp used for over $450 and $500 + dros. But they think I am the bad guy because won't pay their price. I do my home work and know what things are selling for "today".

I'm on both sides of this I've given guys here advice that has saved them money and they they nickle and dimes me when I'm already giving them a good deal on something.
On the other hand I'm sick of going thru adds that are over priced or they don't list where they live and it must be a FTF.
But its rare OD green glock.Comment

I just return PM a "No thanks, I'll pass on your offer."
Then again stuff I sell does not last very long. I figure out what it is selling for here and elsewhere and reduce my price by %10 and out the door it goes for my asking price.
I do see many sellers here who are just priced too high. If a seller is bumping it for weeks or months and it hasn't sold it's either overpriced or has limited appeal. Usually it's over priced.^^ Said by some lunatic on the internetComment

+1 and amen to this.I'm on both sides of this I've given guys here advice that has saved them money and they they nickle and dimes me when I'm already giving them a good deal on something.

I've been on both sides of the table.
As a buyer:- I don't want to drive all over the place only to discover that what I'm interested in wasn't accurately represented (gotta love what the camera can hide as much as show)
- I don't want to pay retail or above for a commodity gun, regardless of "upgrades"
- I like to negotiate for the best deal, it's human nature and we all do it
- I am willing to pay a fair price for something unusual/rare
As a seller- I want to set a fair price, but obviously maximize my position
- I will negotiate and consider fair offers
- I will drive a reasonable distance
- I will disclose everything I know about the firearm
I was recently selling a nice old S&W revolver. Guy PMs me, offers me $100 below asking as well as wanting me to drive 50 miles each way to him for the sale (and bridge tolls). Hmmmm, not reasonable in my opinion and all too one sided with none of his "skin" in the transaction (no sale is a guarantee until all is said and done), but this was just a bit much IMHO. To each his own.Comment

We have not had one of these threads in awhile.Comment

It is obvious that most of the people that start these threads are not in any kind of business or trade where they are regularly asked for price reductions.
Just the same I think we really need to consolidate all of the "I hate lowball offer" threads together. Maybe a sticky on the marketplace forums.
Or maybe we can create a bot that automatically starts one once a month so no one has to. That might be more convenient.
I wonder how many guns I could buy in the marketplace just by offering 40% of the asking price on every gun posted? I have got to believe that some percentage of sellers would bite eventually.
Oh well, welcome to the world of selling stuff. You think this place is bad, go sell something on ebay. You get the most bizarre questions and A LOT of them. At least most people here know what you are selling and don't need an education as to what the product is for and why they might want to buy it.Comment

The market value is determined on what someone is willing to pay for it. Not to say you couldn't sell it more if you found someone else, but sometimes I just offer what it is worth to me.
If I absolutely got to have it, then his asking price might be worth it to me.
If I don't really want it but the guy needs money today? I might offer him something but it had better be an awesome deal for me to end up with something I don't really want.Kevin

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

I am a proud low-baller. Why because I don't believe in paying more than the lowest possible retail price. It is not my fault that someone paid too much for their firearm, and while I'll take thier cheap crappy accessories, they would usually not be my preference, so why pay for them either.
Firearms are to some extent a stable commodity, but that does not mean it makes much sense to pay a new price for a used and potentially bungled up rifle or pistol. Low ball all the way.
Tomorrow I will be transferring a rifle that I bought in the marketplace. My first offer was about half the asking price (but only $75 less than another similar item listed). I recieved a screw you response to my PM. A month later it was still for sale, I raised my offer a bit and bang sold.
In the real world a sale works something like this:
1.Seller asks for too much
2.Buyer offers too little
3. At this point you have two choices
A. Create a rant thread And complain about low-ballers
B. Sack up and counter offer, in the sales world we call this a "negotiation"
4. Exchange goods or services, and thank God you were not born in Soviet Russia or China. Capitalism baby!"Cum catapultae proscriptae erunt tum soli proscripti catapultas habebunt."
