Do I need a range bag

I feel like I want a range bag and don't need one. Is buying one a waste of money since I have a medium sized duffel bag and some ammo cans I use?

    Thoughts?

I highly recommend one. It made going to the range less of a chore. I always keep the staple gun + staples, shoot n C packs, uplulas, earmuffs, etc.

When I go out shooting all I have to do is add the guns and ammo, and I am off!

Get one. All the pockets help keep your gear organized.

I'd been using a regular gym bag for about 4 years and debated whether to buy a dedicated range bag or not. My friends bought new range bags recently so I gave in and bought one too. Definitely worth it.

I recommend any of the Midway range bags, but wait until they go on sale.

Don't laugh, I went down to The Home Depot and picked up an 18" tool bag for less than $20 bucks and it works pretty good. Has a heavy duty zipper that I can lock and plenty of outside pockets for mags, lube, etc.

It also came with a second smaller bag that my wife uses for her gun and supplies.

Doesn't really need to be a "Range bag" but something that can carry some weight and have pockets/compartments/dividers/whatever to organize things is nice to have. It definitely doesn't have to be "tactical", cost $200, or be something so huge you can't practically carry it around.

I have 2 range bags, a big one and a small one. The small one goes to the range if I'm only taking a couple guns or everything is the same caliber(if I only feel like shooting rimfire or something). The large one goes when I'm taking a whole bunch of stuff.

                Use a briefcase.

Easy to carry and doesn't even get a second look if you get pulled over...

Everybody needs a range bag---keeps your shooting stuff organized so you can grab it and go---once you've loaded it with the right ammo of course.

Range bags are helpful and very handy. Ammo, magazines, targets, etc in one bag.

Buy a "Range Bag" is the rant. Okay. Briefcase is a good one. Here is what I have been using for years. It can be locked, easy to organized, cannot be cut open with a knife, inexpensive, can take a beating and content can remain intact, holds ammo and tools like stapler and you can put stickers on it too. I bought this one at Sears. I have also seen them now at Orchard Supply Hardware. I also have a gun bag but rarely use it.

My 'Range Bag' is a sports duffel bag. Small padlock on zipper of main compartment.
You can get as big as you want and lots of pockets, if you like.
Nothing on my range bag tells an outsider that I have guns.

I have an I Shot bag that I bought a few years back. Unfortunately they don't make that version any more. I really like it. The good news is that it doesn't show any wear after using it for 3 years at an outdoor range and shooting 1-3 times per month. It is quite large and gets very heavy when I load it up. Yesterday, I shot a competition with some practice afterward. I had my 460 8" revolver and my xd 4" along with 150 rounds of 45lc, 70 rounds of 460, and 400 rounds of 9mm all in ammo boxes. I also keep 8 mags for the xd, cleaning tools, timer, clipboard, hand wipes, tools, etc. in there. The double zippers can be locked with a mid sized 4 digit combo pad lock (to satisfy CA transportation requirements).

My brother and parents set me up for shooting clays, as a Christmas gift. I have the bass pro redhead canvas and leather shotgun range bag and a double pocket shell holder with belt. They are made in china, but they have worked great for my last 4 outings to the skeet range. I keep the bag loaded with 200 shells and my other gear. I just grab the range bag, shell pouch, and shotgun case and I am ready to go.

I still need to setup a rifle bag. Now that I have pistol and shotgun bags, I wouldn't go back to trying to gather everything up right before a trip. I used to have a list to follow so I wouldn't forget something. Now all the important stuff is in the bag.

My mom uses a tool bag as a pistol bag, but the zippers can't be locked and it isn't organized as well. She thinks she wants to upgrade to a range bag. YMMV

I bought a large range bag from Midway USA and am glad I did. It carries everything I need, but sure gets very heavy when loaded up.

I use a regular rolling travel bag. Check out the local "thrift stores" and sometime can be had for just a couple of bucks.
