Do I need a range bag

Even when the Midway bag went on sale they charged me about 20 bux for shipping.

That's been my only "complaint" so far about the Midway bag. But I guess if you buy it on sale and consider that you don't pay sales tax, it isn't too bad.

I purchased Eagle Industries' E&E bag from a Calgunner a couple of years ago. It's the perfect size for a range bag and it serves a dual purpose of course. I paid about $70 for a bag that typically runs around $150.



Check your local military surplus stores if you don't want to spend a bunch of money. Save it for shooting. You can always find something in a mil surp store.

I just realized... I have a bag for cleaning my AR, a bag for general gun tools, a range bag with my shooting gear (eyes, ears, mags, etc.), a REALLY big bag which I accidentally bought thinking it was smaller, a Pachmayr box, and a Ruger range bag.

Maybe the wife is right... I might have too many bags. Damn. I thought she was being crazy.

I just use a travel backpack. Lockable main compartment and I added some DIY holsters. Backpacks are easier for me to carry when the load gets heavy with ammo.

While I have a range bag, and am a big fan of them, I have to laugh and say that Burbur's idea is ingenious! LOL I wouldn't do it, ultimately, but I have to give you props for gettin' it done.

Whatever you decide to do, keep all the various things you need, in the same place, and never move them between sessions. That way you won't have to go searching for: ear pro, magazines, eye pro, etc. etc. etc.

And, if you get too large a range bag and stuff it full of ammo, etc. you will also enjoy a weight lifting workout!

Seriously, they can get VERY heavy in a hurry.

I keep most of my range stuff, sans ammo and weapons, in the back of my SUV, at all times, that way I can just grab gun and ammo and head on out.

I use an old briefcase to keep all my targets and staple gun in one place, oh, yes, staples too. Nice to have that all in one place so I don't have to go looking for all that.

Agree, 3 or 4 boxes of ammo 3 magazines can get pretty heavy.

Well, if that's all you are going to shoot, why bother going at all?

3 or 4 boxes 100 rounds each is enough for me for one session plus I usually shoot my brothers guns when we go shooting. Also i'm not rich I can't afford to shoot 1000 rounds every trip.

Suggestion

For HANDGUNS I use a heavy canvas CAMERA BAG which has lots of compartments, strong carry handle and a good shoulder strap. I put my cell phone on the outside for easy access and display purposes. No has ever paid the slightest attention to this bag including LEO's.

I also put a NIKON sticker on the front as a decoy emblem. On the inside a put
sheepskin padding on the bottom, but it really was not a necessity.

I carry this bag everywhere I go (have a CCW) and even put it on the table in a restaurant.

lockable, won't absorb water, lots of compartments and panels that can be adjusted... Well, the one I have that looks like this is, I've had it for 15 years at least now...

The midway bags aren't cheesy at all. If anything I find your statement to be quite silly considering you favor 5.11 as not being cheesy. The 5.11 products I have are indeed well made(bags, pants, some other stuff), but if you're paying anything remotely close to full price, their gear is absurd. And maxpedition? You mean the tactical fanny-pack company? Some of their gear is nice, but for some reason it seems like they're almost afraid to make backpacks and would prefer everything to be that annoying single shoulder strap stuff.

You're clueless if you're hating on Maxpeditoin. Their line is quite extensive and they have plenty of "regular" backpacks.

You get what you pay for.
