I pretty much treat every unknown potential buyer the same, whether they are a noob or a veteran poster.
If you aren't familiar with them, read their posts.
If all they want to do is exchange texts, I'm out.
If we can have a conversation over the phone, both the buyer and seller can get an idea of who they are dealing with (not that you can't be fooled).
If everything seems legit, then we can proceed.
Have the noob drive to one of the FFLs that you use.
I'm lucky that I have a handful of local FFLs to choose from that are within 20-30 minutes (non rush hour) to choose from.
If you have to drive a lot farther to an FFL, It's even more important for you to vet the buyer as much as you can.
Have a conversation with the buyer right before you go to meet them.
If you get the feeling that somethings not right, have them make a non-refundable deposit or cancel the deal.
You can't catch all the flakes/scammers, but you can probably figure most of them out.
