Also some of the worst offenders don't even live in CA anymore. So what do they have to be so angry about if their life is so much better in another state? Why do they spend so much time on this forum talking crap and spewing hateful nonsense? It doesn't make any sense.

Because there's no more iTrader ratings.

It's much easier for crooks to rip people off because there's no iTrader rating on Calguns anymore. It was a good way to verify if the item for sale was from a legit seller or how legit the buyer was.

From my very recent experience as a seller, the newer members are a bit unreliable, where the one older member was friendly, polite, and efficient.

But this is from a single experience. Ymmv

            ^This.

I will admit I first heard of CG through a tenured member who boasted about the Marketplace. I joined solely to find good PPT deals, but later found myself contributing to other parts of the forum in return for the copious amount of information I've learned.

I've definitely bought/sold from/to newer members with little to not feedback or post count; not everyone is bad, but you definitely have to do your due diligence in weeding out the scammers/ABC agencies.

I would bet part of it is that there limited options to advertise PPT guns in California. FB Marketplace and Craigslist don't allow firearms related ads and those are the primary classified ads platforms. Calguns is one of the only large user base sites that does explicitly allow these ads. We also have to remember that not every gun owner is a POTG any more than every car owner is a car person. If they are not invested the broader philosophy of gun ownership they are not going to be on Calguns IMO, until it's time to sell something.

Remember when you could in CA? The shooting ranges had Bulletin Boards were you could put an ad to sell. 40 years ago I remember driving on the weekend to Yard Sales and one had a sign up, "GUNS" so I 'brake checked' my ex-wife because I did not want to miss that one.

I have known guys who bought the hot "$2 Pistol".

Some people are looking for profits from buying and selling firearms. So it is not like you looking for a Grail Gun.

Like I have a BHP and I always wanted a second preferably in nickle. Anyways I saw somebody's first post is a BHP for $500. It is sold and the buyer a month later is posting the same BHP for $1500. It is what it is. Also at my age I'm downsizing so anything that is just sitting in the Gun Safe has to go. So on WTB somebody said they wanted S&W revolvers and I responded with what I got and I thought they wanted special revolvers for their Collection. But they just want to flip them because they wanted to buy them cheap.

Because Calguns has the biggest marketplace in CA by virtue of being first and with older guys with money and guns to buy/sell. From there it grew, then faded off as people left the state. But the marketplace stayed and that alone attracts new people. Although participation rates are down, and with the old website issues attributing to it, some still hang around.

A new site built by another member to compete during the bad website issues. It got a decent rally and build, but it faded off when CGN re-opened with the new site, and with that, the marketplace.

If you're looking for the younger folks, they're on reddit. The alternate site is doing ok. But CGN remains what it is. The alternate site does have a better listing methodology, but the volume of goods is here.
