Winning
I spotted an officer in Levy County with a well worn high end 1911. I told him it was good to see a dept. that still trusted an officer to carry a 1911. He laughed and said that someone had just told him he couldn't carry it. He recited the policy that stated he could carry a 1911 if approved by the chief firearms instructor. The higher-up argued the policy with him, and he told him," I'm the chief firearms instructor, and I wrote the policy. You might have signed off on it, but I wrote it, and I approved this 1911."
Hilarious. Pretty much the SOP for me.

FTW!!!I had a good gun conversation w/ a cop once,
he had just pulled me over for speeding, and I was showing him my ccw he wanted to know how many guns I was carrying & I said 3, he gets real quiet & says, "Wow, they only let me carry two" we got along fine after that & he let me off with a warning
I hope he was in uniform your you discretely blurted out him carrying.
I usually talk to anyone that’s (obviously) carrying, but only after I introduce myself.Last edited by Ubermcoupe; 03-18-2012, 11:07 AM.Hauoli Makahiki Hou

Uh, no. You don't need to say anything. That whole 5th Amendment thing? Remember?
I guess there are a few counties that think they're above the law on self-incrimination, but, for the majority of counties in California, there is NO requirement to disclose you're carrying -- even if asked (i.e. don't open your mouth. Silence IS an appropriate response). However, it's probably a smart idea to let a cop know if there's a chance he could notice it.

Nearly all of the officers in my city carry HK USPs. I've never asked which caliber though I assume it's in .40.WARNING: This post may contain material offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense and/or supporting factual or anecdotal evidence. Unless they've changed in the past couple of years St. Helena was issuing / carrying P229. Napa SO can and do carry a wide variety. Used to mainly be Sigs but that's changed over time.

I use to sit row 1 at Qualcomm in the lower area and I would see the cops walking by and check out their guns.
Seems like everyone carried Glocks.
What was more interesting was this Asian cop who had what looked like ninchucks. I **** u not he had to small baton like devices connected by a rope.We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools.

Made plenty of conversation with cops over their guns through the years. Always been pleasurable. In fact on a off ramp in Temecula a motor cop and I talk for a while about his sidearm. He enjoyed are talk so much that he told me about the two way radar. This was a while before people started finding out.Comment
