Imbert & Smithers: $50 PPT, Illegal?

haven't these guys learned? i just called, said PPT was $50! Isn't this illegal??
Imbert & Smithers in San Carlos, CA

    **UPDATE 10 Days later**
Soooo... My buddy goes in to pick up his new item at I&S. After he gets the item in hand and all papers signed. he hands them a copy of the PPT laws and they ask "where did you hear about that?" he pointed to calguns.net and they handed him his $15....

Yes, he did buy about $30 worth of cleaning stuff and a pistol case. and they still gave him a guilt trip.

I will use them as a last resort.

Was it a PPT you were asking about or an out of state purchase from a private seller?

I have never known Turners to add costs to a PPT. I have done PPTs at Turners (and paid $35.00) and also worked at Turners and charged $35.00

if it is a face to face transfer with both parties present $35 max for longarms a bit more for pistols but

if they are hornswoggling you ask ast them if "is true that the state limits the charge to $35 on a private party transfer?" if they say no then say "i think i'll call up the doj to see what they say"

                also check this

                # What fees can I charge for handling a Private Party Transfer (PPT)?

If the transaction is a PPT, you are restricted to charging no more than $25.00 in State fees described and $10.00 per firearm for conducting the PPT. For example:

                1. For a PPT involving one or more handguns, the total allowable fees are $35.00 for the first handgun, and $31.00 for each subsequent handgun.
                2. For PPTs involving one or more long guns, the State fees are limited to $25.00 for the whole transaction plus $10.00 dealer fee per firearm transferred.

                (PC section 12082)

Screw Imbert and Smithers. The only way they would ever get my business back is if they refunded everyone that they overcharged for PPT's.

Per DOJ- PPT is $35 ($25 dros, $10 handling fee to dealer)
Dealer cannot charge more & cannot refuse to do them!
Call DOJ to take care of the matter!

I hate to throw the DOJ on them.

                      True, they should follow it..

Legislation needs to be added to allow for adjustment of fees for inflation so dealer can make a fair amount.

How about DOJ/BOF not be such ************ to begin with?

The last couple times I bought a consignment gun or new gun there (it's been a few years), they added a couple stupid charges to the total. I forget what they were but, I remember that I wasn't too happy with the charges and decided not to buy from them again.

The $10 limit is for doing the paperwork.

Do you want your gun stored safely and securely during the 10 day wait?

Other fees could be charged for storage, climate control, security etc...
The DOJ does not say you can't charge $1.50 per day in storage fees.
10 day minimum storage is required for a $15 charge.

If you are doing a PPT on long guns just take them to Big 5 Sporting goods. They are much cheaper and have stores throughout the bay area.
