This is exactly what I was referring too, that it would be boring as hell. It would be funny on our Friday afternoon BBQ's, like last week where Jim burned the chicken (I mean burnt like I have never seen) so we ordered out and he still at the crispy critters. But wow what TV that would make.

Still makes me laugh about the lower being milled out.

I've only watched about 3 or 4 episodes from Sons of Guns, but I think most of the hate comes from knowledgeable people pointing out technical inaccuracies in the show. It's similar to active soldiers watching a movie about the military, or police officers watching a cop show. They have knowledge about their profession that most others don't, and cringe when something is depicted incorrectly. I think many on Calguns have some experience building firearms and are allowing that experience to color their opinions regarding the show.

Having said that, I think there are other legitimate concerns about the negative stereotyping of gun enthusiasts in general, as pointed out by others in this thread. In the 3 or 4 episodes I've seen, the owners and employees of Red Jacket have been continually depicted as arrogant unprofessional dufuses (dufi?). I have seen them treat potential customers with disdain; misuse and mishandle firearms, including throwing firearms in anger; building impractical items that most of us would never use (seriously, a mortar?); openly refuse to help other employees, etc. My concern is that anyone not already a gun enthusiast will watch the show and come away with the impression that gun owners are an ignorant hot-tempered elitist bunch.

Of course that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I enjoy the show. I don't care that most of it is a bunch of bull. Unless it's just an act, Vince is a hater! I would fire his arse just on principal alone. Only thing saving him is his knowledge, and that's if he comes back after he walked out like a little princess. Yeah, maybe Will shows favoritism towards Chris, but you would too if he was banging your daughter...
Look at the positive of the show, at least guns are really being exposed to the public thorough a nation wide broadcast! With as many shows on air relating firearms and American gun owners, I only see it as a positive rather than tearing the show apart because you don't like it. Look at the bigger picture! With these type of shows broadcasting, I'm sure they had something to do with the largest amount of Christmas gun sales in history.

well seriously, I'm no machinist but i've watched enough of these types of shows (American Chopper, Sons of Guns, American Hot Rod, etc) to know that those machines take hours and hours of running to cut even a small part from a solid chunk of aluminum. So of course they edit it down to a few seconds of screen time showing the larger cuts being made. They could fill an entire season of just one part being milled out if they showed the entire process start to finish. And who the hell wants to watch that? Even the guy running the machine probably doesn't want to be staring at the part being cut out for 12 hours.

I don't know, I kind of sided with Vince in that last episode... Yeah, he could have handled it better and more professionally, but I think he was 'wronged' in how all of that drama with Chris went down.

Vince has seniority in the shop, is MUCH more knowledgeable than Chris, and if that "nuclear AR" rig really was going to be a major new contract for the shop, it should have gone to Vince. Especially since Chris had no idea where to even start with it, much less get the gun running after Will told him how to build it. Chris was not ready for that assignment.

And if now it turns out that Vince really helped Will out by assuming his FFL after Will screwed up by somehow 'losing' multiple full-autos, then Will really does not show the kind of loyalty that I would expect in that situation...

Chris is a more of a clown than a gunsmith. He has a place in that show, for entertainment value. But he should NOT be building prototype guns that can supposedly make or break the business (if that was indeed true).

If I was Vince, I would have been very pissed off too.

Anybody besides me think that Vince put the wrong buffer in that gun on purpose, before shipping it, so it would fail in the trials?

I have to agree with most of what was said in here...

                1. Although I know 99% of the show is scripted/edited down to fit the story the producers want, its still a show about guns - and I do enjoy watching it.

                2. It's good that the hobby is getting a show on a major cable network, but I also have the concern over the portrayal of gun owners/builders. (We're not all hot tempered hicks who blow **** up)

                3. Steph is NOT hot.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

It is not about the GUN it is about the RIGHT

I think Vince did put the wrong buffer in on purpose because IT IS ALL SCRIPTED down to the very last word and frame! I bet Chris failed on the project on purpose and Vince left on purpose and is going to come back on purpose.

Steph and Chris have probably been going out since before the first season and they scripted them getting together during the show to add drama. The whole fight between Vince and everyone else has been added for drama as well, after the cameras go off they probably all hang out and have a beer together. The box that was shipped was shredded by the staff off camera, it is all set up. The show has nothing to do with reality and never will and that is why it is entertaining.

The show is fiction and there should be no judgments made on any of the characters in the show because they are just that fictional characters based on reality. When you find yourself thinking Will is a prick or Chris is borderline retarded it is because they want you to. If they wanted you to think everyone was a MIT grad they would engineer the show so that is what we would think.

They know they aren’t inventing anything new but if they were just like we are making a gas piston AR exactly like a bunch of other companies do, and it really isn’t as good as the other companies gas piston setups, everyone would change the channel.

I like the show and I also watch all the other gun shows on TV. People just need to stop taking a TV show so seriously if you don't like it change the channel.

The gun/rifle building is pretty much fiction, but I watch it to see just how far off the info is. Anything on the idiot box I take with a grain of salt. The one thing I do like is it's something the antis might have to see when flipping channels and give them a stomach ache. lol
