I cover everything with people that I take to the range. The more pro-shooters the better!"Bruen, the Bruen opinion, I believe, discarded the intermediate scrutiny test that I also thought was not very useful; and has, instead, replaced it with a text history and tradition test." 1st time or 40th time, I always give people the line: "bring 10 bucks to help cover the cost of ammo". It doesn't even come close to actually covering what they shoot, but it helps a little. Of course, everyone I go with has an actual desire to shoot, so I don't feel bad asking for $10 (or spot my lunch) on their first trip. If I were trying to convert an 'anti', the trip would definitely be free.
I really only go shooting when I can get a group of people to go and I can't get everyone to go if I charged them 1:1 the cost of ammo. I figure, if I get them hooked, they'll buy thier own guns and ammo and they'll want to go shooting more often.
So this is an investment that I'm hoping pays off later in more trips to the range.WTB .357 Lever Action:

Yeah first time is usually on me, after that they can bring ammo. I used to do cash but I ran into lack of availability issues. Now I am getting into reloading so I can make 100 rounds of .45acp for abour $11 so I just say buy me lunch or something.Be patient with those that offer advice, but be careful whose advice you buy.

I usually pay the first time because I invited them and after that if they want to go again then they need to kick, unless of course it,s my kids or gf.Comment

If I take some one shooing for the first time. I let them shoot the 22's first rifle or pistol as much as they want. I will let them try a couple of magazines of 9mm if they have fun with it. I may let them shoot the whole box of 50 rounds. I tell them before they pickup lunch or dinner. Unless if this is a date I will get cover it.
If they want to try larger calibers. That's for the next visit to the range and they pay for range fees and ammo. I will tell them what calibers I have and to pick up ammo at wal-mart before hand . If they tell me what they want. I will pick it up for them and they will have to pay me back before we shoot.
If they want to go shooting from there on they pay for every thing and even have to clean the guns.
If its young kids shooting the 22's I will usually pick up the ammo cost.
One time a friend brought some body along with him with out telling me. First time shooter.
Pissed me off a little bit but he brought his own ammo 5/20 round boxes of 45acp defensive ammo. He said he spent over 100 dollars on it. I told him I would trade him for 3 box's of my ammo, 50 round boxes and I would pick up his ranges fees. Just say he had fun shooting all 150 rounds and I got some good ammo in the trade.
He never even looked at the smaller caliber hand guns. I had to coach him a lot as he could barely hit the center of the target. I offered to have him try a smaller caliber first but he said no.Last edited by weekend_plinker; 12-12-2011, 1:56 PM.Comment

A friend of mine and I used to shoot at sac valley AT LEAST 3 times a week. He would usually drive (hes ocd on driving) so either him or I would pick up range fees, and shoot each others guns and ammo. Sometimes I would get coffee, lunch or whatever, sometimes he would. Good days those were.
Usually though, I will let someone shoot my 22s and 45 as long as they dont think they are going to blow through a couple hundred rounds of 45 (I reload so each round costs around $.12). When it comes to my long range 308win they might get a few trigger pulls if they are lucky. My general rule is, I really have to like you for you to touch my 308.Comment

Family is all on my dime. My friends bring their own or pay me for true cost of ammo - and all are more than happy to.Comment

Your not me, and if this is what it takes to get them interested then I have no problem with it, what comes around goes around. ps, I guess you'll crap if I tell you I have also given them guns to keep!.....why would you pay for everything? These aren't little kids, they're adults that already pay for their own entertainment elsewhere, so why should shooting be any different?
I'll let them use my guns every time if they want, its free. But I'm not paying $50+ for a grown *** man to go to the range.
