why would you pay for everything? These aren't little kids, they're adults that already pay for their own entertainment elsewhere, so why should shooting be any different?

I'll let them use my guns every time if they want, its free. But I'm not paying $50+ for a grown *** man to go to the range.

Range fees plus ammos on them. I did that couple times before. My friends were ok with it. Just tell them before hand.

Let them pay entrance fee's for themselves.
My way of thinking is to be a goodwill ambassador of the sport and make it
a positive experience for your friends. We need everyone to buy a gun, become proficient with it, and spread the good news. I'm sure one day you'll be at the range and your bud will have a new gun and hand you a few mags to take it for a test drive.
You don't want them picking out what runs in your rig. Another way to look at it.

I generally bring a lot of extra ammo to the range and encourage new shooters to shoot as much as they want. I stress that everything is on me the first few times. It's a great way to get people introduced to the sport and helps bring over voters to our side.

I usually tell my friends that are new shooters that if they want to go with me, they're covering my range fee and gas money. They can shoot all of the .22lr and 9mm they want, a few mags out of the AR (or whatever else I happen to have brought with me), and if they've been paying enough attention to what I've been telling them they can take some shots with the .308.

Most of the time they've gone to the range and shot some rentals with other people before so I know they have at least some idea of how things work. Plus, these are people that I've known for years who won't get excited and turn around sweeping everyone with the muzzle.

There are a couple of people I know who I've actually gotten into arguments with over gun safety that I will not go to the range with, ever. One of them in particular wanted to check out an AR so I check the chamber and hand it to him in my living room, his finger is immediately on the trigger and sweeping me with it. That conversation was along the lines of:
"dude, wtf are you doing, stop pointing it at me or you're going to regret it"
"what's the problem, you checked that it was unloaded"
"and you didn't, the 4 rules of safety are...."
"pfft, that doesn't matter, it's unloaded"
"you're really going to argue with me over this? give me that back before I take it from you and beat you with it"
"fine, I don't see what the big deal is"
"the big deal is that stupid accidents happen when people fail to follow 4 basic rules"
            "it was unloaded"
            "that's not the point"

The funny thing is, that particular idiot(and it was an extremely enlightening event) was probably(until that point anyway) one of the most rational, intelligent, and responsible people I knew. Turns out anyone can be a complete idiot when it comes to certain things.

The people who have their own guns that I go to the range with, we just swap guns. Someone lets me shoot their .30-06, I let them shoot my .308. They let me shoot their .45, I'll pass them my .45. Is it always an even 1:1 ratio? No. Don't really care. Going to the range with the same people often enough, it ends up balancing itself out over time anyway. Hell, one time I had someone cover my range fees and ammo because he needed a 2nd person with him so he could rent some guns he wanted to get a feel for(it was an indoor handgun range, and he didn't own any handguns himself at the time).

The whole paying for the other shooters range fees, ammo, gas, etc... that's not going to happen unless it's a date or something.

true but i doubt some of my friends are going to get a gun though so im probably going to tell them just throw me a little cash for the ammo and pay for your own range fee

If I invite them to go shooting the first time is on me.

If they ask me to take them it depends on how I feel about them.

Good friends, I'll usually treat the first time. But they usually offer to pay something. Ammo is expensive. Sometimes they'll just shoot 20-30 each rounds of various 9mm, 45, 223 maybe 308 or 12ga. But if they're going to blast away 200-300 rounds, they better pay.

first time they can use my gun and a few clips but they pay range time. next time it's all on them but they can use my gun after the 4th time out we take a tour of the guns in the case and i will help them pick out a good choice for them and tell them where they can get a good deal on ammo

like something along the lines of

"just gimme 30bux for the ammo your going to use"
Guys, 1st time ammo is on me, after that they pay.

Women, depends on what they look like.

                          First time is free.
After that, if they offer to pay, I don't let them.
If they don't offer to pay, I'll let them know how much ammo is going to cost them.

There are takers and givers. I don't let the takers take, but I don't let the givers give.

Either they buy the ammo or I pay and they owe me lunch or something later.
