I say different about Bright Spot. They offered me crap for my handgun, spewed out FUD to the other customers and myself, and is not a very well kept place imo. Just no.

Warrior One, Turners in San Bernadino, and Daves Magnum all have treated me with respect and a valued customer. They are the best in my book.

Warrior One in riverside is pretty good. I also like Bullseye Sport in riverside, they have good prices, offer 90 day layaway, hi-cap rebuilds, and cheap ammo prices. I bought my M&P.45 for 505

        In Sacramento area...
My best experiences have been with Wild Bills in Elk Grove. A good friendly group and a busy little store. I was in there last Friday about 1:30PM, and there were four guys behind the counter and customers three deep at that counter.

Big 5 in Elk Grove has a pretty good mgr who seems to know what he's doing. Most of their selection is of the basic lower end models of rifles and shotguns (Savage 110s, Remington 870s, Mossberg 500s, etc.). The do carry C&R rifles, and I've bought several C&R rifles from that store over the years. If you ask, they'll pull the non-diplayed C&R rifles out of the safe for you to compare and select which you want too.

I've heard some good things about River City Gun Exchange. However, I've only been in there once. They seemed very helpful, but they are a bit out of the way for me. So, I don't frequent the place.

I use to like the Sacramento Armory when they were around, but they're gone now.

Worst: hands down The Gun Room is the worst place I've ever done firearms business. I did exactly one transaction at the old gun shop on Elk Grove Blvd, one ammo transaction at the new place, and took my son to his hunter safety course at the new place. Every one of those transactions left me with a sour taste in my mouth. As nice of a selection as they have at the new place, you'd think that place would have wall to wall customers. Everything in that place is overpriced, and the sales staff have a pompus aire about them that reflects their management. It also shows in the number of customer's they have in that place.

I've shot at the Gun Room's indoor range from time to time, but recently was present with my son during another customer's ND behind the firing line. I decided it wasn't a safe place to be anymore. All in all. I'm done with that place. I have other places to shoot that are much more safety concious, and other places to serve my firearm's needs.

I had a bad experience with Rancho Cordova Guns a few years back and haven't been back. I guess I shouldn't say it was a bad experience. I just didn't get any help from the guy behind the counter, and decided to take my business elsewhere. Maybe he was just having a bad day.

Oak Tree, Turners Pasadena, both have been very good to me. Helps to have a smile on your face and speak politely and respectfully as in any social situation.

San Diego, El Cajon Gun Exchange. Idiots thought I brought a Plasma Rifle in their store when I brought my ACR in for a pro cleaning. Broke out the book accusing me of having an illegal assault rifle because they've never seen one, classy. A Gun store that doesn't know s**t about modern firearms, go figure.

Big 5 in Lakewood Cali is pretty good now(but maybe that's cause they know who i am).
Ammo Bros Cerritos is alright. Nice selection but they can take there time sometimes to come help you.
Turners in Norwalk is horrible, i hate going there. Everyone seems to have a chip on there shoulders, and when you ask them a question, they come off as you are a bother.

I've had a love/hate with Turners (Torrance) for a bit. Currently, they're doing a very good job and coporate has dealt with me fair.

You must be speaking of the store in Pismo Beach? One of the managers is a shooting enthusiast. He is very knowledgeable about guns and will make it a point to wait on you if he is anywhere in the vicinity of the gun counter. Pismo also seems to always be very well stocked with guns.

It's interesting how one person will attack XYZ gun shop while another person will note they had a good experience at the same place. Often times it depends who is waiting on you.

It also depends on how one acts and to a lesser extent looks when they enter the store -- and that can change from shop to shop and salesman to salesman.

Poway Weapons and Gear is relatively new here, but knowledgeable and polite. I have done a couple of transfers with them, and intend to have my wife buy what she wants there.

The three I usually do business with are:

Turner's, San Marcos - OK, but usually takes some time to get a person to talk to. Prices are more than fair. I usually go there when Wal-Mart doesn't have the ammo I need. I have bought several guns there. The only bummer is, if you put money down on a gun, they don't start the paper work until the gun is paid off.

Duncan's Gun Works, San Marcos - I have known Bud for many years; great guy and great employees. Great shop, but, the gunsmithing can be a bit slow, however, they were able to manufacture a firing pin for my Star Model B. I have bought quite a few guns from them and will continue to do so. They have a lot of consignment stuff and I recently purchased a pristine Colt Detective Special and an equally pristine Browning Hi-Power from them on the same day. Great prices on those. New guns are priced a bit high. Will take 30% down on a gun and start the paper work. You can pay the balance off when you pick up the gun.

Iron Sights Indoor Shooting Range, Oceanside - Great range, but limited stock of guns. You can order most anything through them, and I have. Gunsmith is great and has excellent turn around time. He put a match hammer spring in my Browning Hi-Power and polished the feed ramp, all for $50.00 and had it back to me in 5 days. Will take 30% down on a gun and start the paper work. You can pay the balance off when you pick up the gun.

Turners has just changed the layaway policy back to 30% and dros starts immediately I read.

Best for transfers in San Diego County is Gusslers in Santee
Best for gunsmith work is Gusslers in Santee
Great shopping and dealing (new or used) is Royal Loan in San Diego
Great range and shopping is Project 2000 in East County San Diego

Absolute worst in San Diego County is El Cajon Gun Exchange for anything.

I can't say I've ventured to very many in LA, so I'll put my two cents in for SD. Best IMHO is Parallax Tactical and worst would definitely be Discount Gun Mart off Morena Blvd. worst customer service ever.

If that's true, then I would definately buy more from Turner's. I like to spread out the cost over two paychecks.
