I dont know about the San Marcos location, but the Turners lines around here are brutal. If you are not with your parent, then your buying power is zero. You are not that different than Homie-thug who asks for da Glock Foh-tay, then that Biz Azz revolver (SW 500), then want to know where da nines are at (only to leave 45 min later empty handed, and the store with a longer line than before.) Gnome' sayin?

Turner's does suck in certain regards, but not for the reason you mentioned. I actually kinda like the fact that they wont waste my time helping someone in front of me if they know he cannot purchase anything at the time.

Seriously, aren't you aware that Turner's is not exactly the most CS-friendly place, and that they have a CYA mentality? What makes you so special that they should ignore store policy? Profit on a Tracker in 6 months versus increased liability now? I know which one I would choose...

What exactly are the rules concerning handgun ownership at age 18? Can I buy one from a family member and have free reign to use it at public ranges and whatnot or are there certain restrictions?

The law says you must be 21 to PURCHASE a handgun, but also says you must be 18 to POSSES a handgun...

most common scenario: parents give their 18 year old kid a handgun. Kid still has to have an HSC card and comply with all other laws (such as filling out a form and sending it + $19 to the DOJ), but he can legally own the gun. And since he can legally own the gun, he can do all the same things with it that a 21 year old can...

i'm not sure if buying a gun off someone and doing a PPT is considered a "purchase" for the purposes of the law. i'd look it up, but i gotta get to class...

This whole thread kind of surprised me. I've been shopping at Turners for 30 years and their gun prices have always been lower than other shops (with the exception have the long gone B&B) in the area. I've always found them friendly and helpful. The only thing that seems high is when handling out of state FFL transfers. Something that quite a few shops refuse to do at all.

So other than refusing to let someone handle weapons that they are too young to buy, what's the beef?

I had some time to kill on Wednesday before class so I went into Turners San Mucus to check out a .44 Mag Taurus Tracker for when I turn 21 and the guy at the gun counter wouldn't let me handle it because I am not 21 yet. I left in an unrevealing pissed off way and went to class.

Today though, I went over to Duncan's Gunworks after class to pick up a shotgun I had fixed and the guys there were totally friendly, let me handle the guns and check out how they felt... you know, what ALL gun stores should be doing but some obviously don't follow that mentality.

Needless to say, I am not going to shop at Turner's again unless Turner himself puts a gun to my head. Screw that place.

I went into Target Masters in Milpitas and they let me handle a revolver. I could have been 17 or 21 for all they know though, didn't check my ID when I was asking to see and some rifles.

No, it is apples to apples. I went to pick up a shotgun and checked out the handguns that I desired to check out. Sorry that I did not specify the guns in question.

My Turners Sucks too. When I asked about having a gun shipped for an out of state transfer the cl-j-erk said, "No. Why would we do that? We want to sell you a gun and make money." So I found a closer shop that charges $50 fee for out of state stuff. I wasn't asking them to do it for free. Shoot, even the local Big 5's charges only $25 per gun transfer.

Oh, and the big reason why they suck is they held a "special order" rifle for 2 months before I found out they had it. (Normally stocked item, they had just sold the last sale priced .17HMR but had more coming) I "found out" as after weekly calls and being told it wasn't in yet, I got a postcard saying my "lay-a-way" funds were now forfeit! And then they tried to charge me the DROS AGAIN when it was their mistake they had the gun THE WHOLE TIME!!! Last kick to the nuts, I had to wait 10 more days to pick up as they F***ed up and the 30 days was now over. What a bunch of morons.

The only "good prices" they have are the "sale prices" every few months. I'll pay the same amount as the "sale prices" through my dealers of choice WITH the transfer fees thank you.

i look at this from a different angle. the gun store clerks have to wipe the greasy fingerprints off every gun a customer "tire kicks". why the heck would they want to have to wipe the greasy fingerprints off of guns that the customer cannot even buy? why waste the clerks time? its kinda rude on your part. go back when your able, and willing to buy. everyone hates tirekickers. what could be more loathsom than a tirekicker that cant buy even if he wanted to?

hes still young. he has time to learn. and if he learns the lesson im preaching before he hits 21 then he will have beat me. i was 21+2 days when i realized what a pain i was being at shops.

No, your sister would have to do a PTP and you're not old enough. (Intrafamilial Transfers are up and down, not sideways)
