for how long AZ permit is good for?

The essence of Western civilization is the Magna Carta, not the Magna Mac. The fact that non-Westerners may bite into the later has no implications for their accepting the former.
    S.P. Huntington.

EDIT 2020: To be fair that seems to apply to many Westerners also.

Concealed weapons permits may be renewed every five years. See renewal procedure.

Why would you open carry and be a walking target when you could legally CCW? Am I missing something here?

So I get my Utah permit, to carry in Nevada (who goes to Utah?). A few months later Nevada drops Utah as a valid out of state permit (not enough training required). Now I can use my Utah permit as valid training proof to get an Arizona permit that is valid in Nevada?? I think Nevada needs to figure things out better. Either way, I've just requested an app for Arizona, great news!

Because it isn't in effect until July 1st, which is after this weekend when he's going. That's the whole point of his post.

I spend more time in Utah than in any state other than California. Wonderful state, good gun laws, nice people.

Very interesting. Btw, I sent off my request after I made my last post, and already received a reply. It's been less than 15 minutes.

Here is the reply however. I think they are confused, and I'll be doing what I can to change their mind.

We would be able to use the Utah or Oregon permits as proof of firearms training, however, we could not use the California permit. The training requirement for the California permit is not equitable to the requirement in Arizona. The packet includes the application, two fingerprint cards, and a return envelope. Fill out the application (front side only). In the middle of the back side is a section called "Firearms Qualification and Statuatory Review Affidavit", write in on the top line the name of the document you are using as alternate training and sign your name and date on the next line. Fill out and print both fingerprint cards, and make a copy of the document, and you will need to purchase a money order, cashier's check, or certified check for the $60.00 fee made payable to AZ DPS. All of these documents will be required to apply for the Arizona CCW Permit. We will send an application packet to you in the mail. Thank you.

              My reply to that is

Thank you for the the quick reply. I'm wondering how training for Utah or Oregon is valid but California is not. My Utah training course was a half day classroom event. Oregon just accepted my training certificate from the trainer in California. My California training consisted of 20 hours, half on the range half in a classroom, with detailed discussion and live fire training in self defense situations. Calguns is working hard to get many more California residents CCW permits, I'd hope that Arizona could be persuaded to re-evaluate that decision. If you need any more information about the CA CCW training requirements, I would be happy to provide them to you.

I'll let you all know what they say.

They replied so fast I can just edit my post.

For further information regarding the training requirements in other states, you might want to contact our supervisor at the number listed below. We are not provided with a break-down or explanation as to why or why not states training requirements are equitable to Arizona's or not. Thank you.

I'll call tomorrow, I asked for information about the specific statutes that detail the training requirements. Anyone have other information for this? Oregon will accept an online safety course that takes 5 minutes to complete, but that is good enough training for AZ. I'm hoping this isn't some CA hate, directed against the wrong group of CA residents!

It was discussed in the CCW forum already. They don't like the CA CCW because each county sets its own requirements, no consistency in the training requirements.

But there are minimum requirements in state law that FAR outweigh the other states that they accept training from.

There have been a lot of posts about this in the CCW section. Those in CA planning to obtain an AZ permit should know AZ *does not* accept a CA CCW for alternate documentation. They do accept Utah.

I wouldn't blame them for any anti-CA actions after the ridiculous posturing that so many CA city and county elected officials took up after SB1070 passed.

I know there are posts about it, I'm wondering why. Having some hate for the lawmakers in California should not hurt the citizens who carry here. It cost around $400 to get my CA ccw, it would be nice for others that don't have the other state CCWs to be able to use that as proof of training. Our requirements for training far outweigh the Arizona requirements, the LAW in AZ says that they accept any other state CCWs with a training requirement, but it seems like the government official in charge of issuing these CCW permits has made their own version of legislation that says CA ccws are not worthy. If that happened in California, there would be outrage, as there was so many times in the past with the doj BOF issues.

Why are people so quick to give up?
                        "I wouldn't blame them"
??? I blame them, it violates their own laws, and it's a slap in the face to us in California.

A slap in the face to us would be denying our applications. Their state, their rules.
Ok... You want to make sense of their policy?

                          I have two questions for you;
                          1. Does CA recognize other states' or AZ's ccw permit?
                          2. Can an AZ ccw holder apply (through the mail or otherwise) for and get a CA ccw permit?

Reciprocity is not mentioned in the AZ code about CCW requirements.

^ You're breaking my heart. As a resident of a no-issue county I'll trade you my AZ permit for your CA one any day of the week.
