All this crying over paying a few extra bucks on a gun purchase. I'd be more upset that they sold me a Mosquito! I'm looking forward to the "my gun doesn't feed ammo properly" rant thread ... j/k

Most stores make you buy a lock no matter what. Based on our policy you have to have a lock; you could have purchased one from anywhere and it would’ve been no problem. In order for us to take possession of the firearm we have to physically have the lock, not just a receipt.
Smart retailing. The law says the lock doesn't have to be present when you start the transfer, but store policy does, and gosh they just happen to cost $20. Hopefully the purchaser keeps the keys during the wait.

I still don't understand the gun cost argument (nor how one gets a "free" HSC), but this shop has cleverly turned the majority of their PPT's into a $28 charge instead of $10.

Unless of course they need a lock on the gun during the wait because they don't have a safe..............naw.

Smart, but not a big deal since they don't have a range on-site.

I suppose they could cruise down to the Firing Line, but they'd be in a heap-o-crap if the DOJ/BATFE showed up for an audit when a gun on the books was not in the store.

I don't think that would work.

I really don't have a problem with it. Federal law does say that the gun shall be "furnished" with a lock. That means that the lock needs to be with the gun at the time of transfer of ownership, which is when the DROS is submitted (if the buyer is rejected, the gun is re-DROS'd back to the seller).

So to comply with Federal law, either the seller or the shop must provide the lock. It is generally overlooked by most shops since the "spirit of the law" is met if the buyer brings a lock in on pickup day, but it sounds like GD is trying to cover their butts... and that's pretty smart given the issues at the shop down the street last year, and the suspicion of some people on this forum that GD has some connection to a former employee or owner of the shop down the street.
If there is a nexus between the two shops, DOJ/BATFE is going to be watching both closely for the next couple of years.

If my biggest problem was paying $20 for a gunlock, I'd be grateful.

Ya, GD is on the north side of Magnolia, a couple of blocks west of Aegis.
They're between Beachwood and Sparks, Aegis is just west of Mariposa.
Gunworld is down at Buena Vista on the south side of Magnolia near Brighton.

Just so you know tho we area direct Sig dealer we can only sell our guns at the minimum Sig will allow us to, otherwise they will cancel us as a dealer.
I've never heard of a minimum selling price for sigs. Sigs do have a MAP (minimum advertised) pricing policy, but dealers are not required to honor that price at the final sale. Same goes in the knife world. Benchmade's year 2010 policy is -15% minimum advertsed price, but some dealers trim even more through checkout discounts or emailed price requests.

Obviously you can only price a gun low enough before you reach break even point, so there is a practical limit as well.

Me too; I am making a list of problem dealers so I know who to avoid. it seems like you need a GD CHECKLIST when you go into an FFL. My current purchase my ffl got me by deciding he is doing 11 DAYS, so with his days off, I have a 14 day DROS,,,another one on my LIST>>>>so many guns, but so many jerks tooooooo!!!

If they did not, then that's kicking a man while he's down. Still, bad leadership there in GD.

Do you have any code sections to back that up? Because everything in the penal code states that the dealer is prohibited from charging any additional fees related to the PPT. Case in point...

PC section 12082 "The purchaser or transferee or
person being loaned the firearm may be required by the dealer to pay
a fee not to exceed ten dollars ($10) per firearm, and no other fee
may be charged by the dealer for a sale, loan, or transfer of a
firearm conducted pursuant to this section
                                , except for the applicable
fees that may be charged pursuant to Sections 12076, 12076.5, and
12088.9 and forwarded to the Department of Justice, and the fees set
forth in Section 12805. Nothing in these provisions shall prevent a
dealer from charging a smaller fee. The dealer may not charge any
                                additional fees
                                ."

Whether the firearms sits there for 10 days or 29 days is irrelevant according to the code. A letter from the director of the firearms division doesn't change this.
