Damn you Jim. Why didn't you remind me of that. I would have rather given you store credit than pay Circus Circus $1200. You know I would paid for your ticket if you wanted to go too.

Wes, the downside to the Vegas condo is that I keep it for my 81 year old aunt, who's kinda like a mom to me, and she stays up all night watching old movies on AMC and TCM and playing Video Poker on her little hand held thingie . . . I love her dearly, but it's hard to get any sleep there! Plus, she's got one of the bedrooms, I've got the other (the one with the Jacuzzi tub), and the fold out in the living room couch really sucks! The cheap bastard that owns the place really ought to replace that piece of . . . oh, wait . . . that's me . . . nevermind!

Circus Circus is actually pretty clean as far as the hotel is concerned. It's been pretty decent since at least 2000.

The only reason people don't like CC is mainly because it's far North on the strip closer to Fremont street. But CC is closer to the convention center than most of the other strip casinos, so that's a plus.

There was a time when CC was really nasty. If I had to go there for some reason (to meet someone staying there) I always wanted to take a shower when I got home! I still avoid it because of those memories, but from what I understand, Jon's right, it's nice now. It always amazed me that CC owned Luxor and Mandalay Bay, too! Those are my favorite places to stay in Vegas when I don't want to intrude on my aunt in the condo. I love RumJungle at Mandalay Bay! Great drinks and excellent food . . . but you've got to bring your appetite!

I have clients in Vegas that like to use the Alexis Park for out of town business guests - - it's on Paradise not far from McCarran Airport and I think it's all suites, and no casino, no restaurants. Nice place to stay, or at least it was last time I stayed there, which has been a while now, and is on Paradise, which is the street the convention center is on as well.

Everyone in the industry knows about it. They knew about it when we explained it to them in 2006. The vast majority of them just choose not to do anything about it other than sell the lowers to out of state dealers and have them ship them in. Basically the lawyers won't let anyone do anything about it.

Plus, the manufacturers are doing pretty well letting the out of state dealers serve as the middle man, and taking whatever minimal risk there might be from the CA DOJ on the OLL issue. Essentially, we, the end user in CA, are paying the cost of the manufacturer's "insurance," namely the markup the out of state dealers are making on the transaction. The out of state dealers effectively insulate the manufacturer from any hassles from the CA DOJ. We want the OLL's so bad, we'll pay the markup to the out of state dealers and still be happy because we can get the product, even if the price to us is higher that it would otherwise need to be, so there's no, or very little, decrease in demand for the manufacturer's product because of the higher price to the end user customer in CA. Californians are already conditioned to getting hosed on price for most things, like GASOLINE, so what's a few bucks more for an OLL?

Unless we get a crystal clear court ruling on the legality of OLL's (not just stripped, but as built, with BB's or other maglocks) I don't think you're going to see much change in the way things are done from how they are right now. Look at Bushmaster, for instance. Why don't they offer an OLL for the CA market besides their Carbon 15 lower? All they need to do is set up their stuff to run some aluminum lowers that say, oh, something like "CA-15" instead of the listed "XM-15" and they'd have a lot of buyers here in CA for that product. Lots of folks want to build an AR that's got both an upper and lower from the same maker. I don't know. Maybe their patent license agreement for the Carbon-15 prevents them for some period of time from doing that - - since it would likely put a big dent in Carbon-15 sales - - or maybe they don't think they'd make enough additional revenue from CA sales of metal lowers to make it worth their while to re-tool their line? Maybe when they next upgrade their manufacturing line they'll move away from the "XM-15" to something unlisted?

Oh and stay away from the Circus Circus BARFett.

When you spend 6 hours a night in the room, it's not really relevant where you stay.

However, +1 on the buffet, I think I'm still backed up 4 years later 'cause of it... The pizza and hot dog spot right next door is safer

for the last decade or so, i have been going to CES and staying at a motel. i drive so i have transportation to go the 2-3 miles to the convention center.

plus at around $60-80 per night, all i care about is a bed to crash at the end of day after walking around for 8 hours...

Oh yes I did. However, we will have a 7 year old on the trip and staying at Circus Circus will be nice for her and honestly, it will be nice to not have to drive around Vegas. It is only money, you can't take it with you when you die and I will just mark up some products a little more and have you guys pay for it!

Just kidding, maybe I will run a sale and get more sales to pay for it. Tag uppers are now $2000 instead of $3206 or whatever it was I was selling them for in that other thread.

I just booked our hotels and registered for the Shot Show 2008 in Las Vegas. It cost the company $1200 for two rooms for four nights! Ouch. I only registered 4 of us since we can't take the kids in with us, but six of us are going.

This is going to be quite the expensive weekend, but that is why we work so hard in the shop. We have to enjoy it sometime.

So who else is going to go? Don't wait too much longer for hotels. They are going quick and they are not cheap!

It was Horrible back then.
