    Cheap safes?

I'm not looking to spend $1,000 on a safe just yet since I'm just getting into this. I seen a 10 gun safe on walmart for $109 does anyone know any other places that sell safes in this walmart price range?

I currently have a xd9 and (1500 rounds of ammo) and I plan on adding a AR and Shotgun here soon,

Is the safe to keep your gun away from children or to protect from fire and being stolen. It might be good to place your gun to protect from children but as a fire/security safe, it's a joke. You have to spend money for a good safe.

All the lowes and costco safes are worthless. they can be gotten into in under 5 min. I don't know what exact safe you are looking at but i can guarantee it's not a "safe".

The BEST advice I can give you is this.....DON'T GO CHEAP ON A SAFE!!!! You can find good deals and prices but don't go cheap. Your safe is the "Keeper of your guns", don't scrimp on this. As stated though, if you need something to keep the kids out of until you get a proper safe then the one from Wally World will do. I'm guessing it's a Stack-on.

For $100 you are getting a gun cabinet, not a safe.
It is going to be a filing cabinet with a key lock... and just as easy to break into as a filing cabinet.

The cheapest for an actual "safe" (and not a good one, but a "real" one) is in the $400-$600 range.

100.00?? more like a metal box with a crap combo system...Bite the bullet and buy a 800-1000.00 safe with a S&G lock system

for 100.00 you could open it with a can opener..seriously

            Gotta post a correction/clarification.

For $100-$200, you can get a "fair" (not particularly good, but not bad) "personal document safe" that would be suitable for storing a few handguns.

But if the $100 "safe" indicates it's for rifles, it's a "cabinet" and not a safe.

I bought a pretty nice used safe for well under $1000.

As stated before a Gun cabinet is not a safe and could be opened in no time at all.

The first safe I bought was a Lowes special "Sentry" It is now just an ammo locker.

Cheap safes are wasted money IMHO. Unless you need an ammo locker lol.

Buy one bigger than you need because they fill up fast. I bought a 24 long gun cannon safe from costco for about 600$ delivered. It weighed about 500# so I bolted it to the floor in the garage. It was already plumbed for electricity and I added a dehumidifier. Then I had a friend that had a liberty safe that they had to get rid of so I bought that one for inside the house. If your just getting into guns and plan on adding an AR and a shotgun you probally end up adding more to your collection sooner than you think. Also the money you invest you wouldnt want some dirtbag making off your guns

Also keep in mind that a "12-gun safe" will only hold 12 guns if 6 of them are pistols.

Sure, you MIGHT be able to get 12 Ruger 10/22 and Marlins in there, but two things are for certain... you'll quickly be investing in gun socks to cut down on the "hangar rash", and if any of the guns are scoped, all bets are off.

Forget even thinking about getting 12 AR or AK-pattern rifles into a 12-gun case.

which is exactly why I bought the <$100 model. Keeps kids out. But more importantly, this isn't a good purchase for the "buy once, cry once" mentality. OP admits he us just getting into this. What capacity does he need? 5 gun? 10 gun? 40 gun plus handgun rack? kid friendly locker, or is he protecting investments, possibly including documentation and other paper/digital media?

That's what is nice about the $100 special. Buy now, and you are kid-safe. much nicer than locked cases, and gets the OP used to having real estate taken by the cabinet/safe.

Then he can buy what he REALLY needs down the road, knowing full well what that need is.

Nothing would be worse than spending $1000 on a safe then learning it "wasn't what he really needed, afterall."

Amsec Tf6030 is right in that range. might be a touch more for MSRP.

Look for a Plate Door, dont look at "composite 2" door"..what it is is sheetmetal wrapped around some dry wall. not very good protection. look at the bolts. 3 way bolts with deadbolts will get you the best protection.

And when they are tlaking about gun capacity. 8-8-16 means it can hold 8 guns on either side or 16 all together. But scopes will take up about 2 spots.

Thanks you were reading my mind. Yes I'm very new to firearms. I just got my first gun this week. But i know I'm going to want a shotgun and rifle. The safe would be in a locked closet as it is.

This is the safe I was looking at http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sentinel-1...binet/14710131

Check craigslist too. Safes are one of those things where if a person needs to move a safe, THEY NEED TO MOVE A SAFE. Good deals are available.
