I like SoCal guns a lot. They usually have tons of rifles on the rack, and lots of used/consignment deals. Their staff has been friendly and I have found plenty of good deals from them.

Every time i go in there, its busy and they are selling lots of stuff. I usually just look at the guns, and buy accessories online but they always have a good variety between the new and used guns. It takes a TON of money to keep the racks completely full. I understand if they need to cut back a little, times are tough.

Theyre a great shop.

I have been going in there for years. I drop in every couple months just to browse their used guns. They always have a couple dozen used lever actions. Their Mil-Surp collection is diverse and competitively priced.
I was in there this past Friday, not intending to buy anything, but I ended up buying a Ruger Mark II, 22/45 with a slab-side target barrel. There are 3 pages of Ruger 22/45s on Gunbroker.com and I only saw three with a starting bid of less than what I paid in the store. Add DROS and tax and it's still less than what I would pay online with transfer fees and use tax.
Some of their nicer guns on the wall are priced pretty healthy, but, like I said, they're the nicer ones. Their stock looks, to me, to be about what it's always been.
I have never found the staff there to be rude or arrogant, ever. While Mike was writing up my DROS and 4473 he was talking to me about raising kids and guns, and we had a lot in common. Nice guy.
Anyone who judges a store, or person, based upon a single visit needs to engage in a little introspection.

Sorry to scare everybody, I didn't even think of that. And I will say that their current staff is pretty decent. They used to have a bunch of the tatooed knuckle-dragging nose-breathers behind the counter that couldn't find a mauser on a rack full of mausers if their life depended on it. Their prices are normally anything but decent. They have a battered 7.35 carcano sitting there marked at $450. I have picked them up for $35. Not $350, but $35. The same thing with most of their other used guns. Look at the bluebook value for whatever it is in NIB condition, double (or triple) it, and that is the price of a beater there. The only deals I have gotten there are when they don't know what they have. When they were it for local gun stores, they could get away with it. Now I think their days are numbered.

gun stores are not antiquated, it's just damn hard for them to make ends meet these days. doing ANY kind of business, especially one that requires a storefront(location location location) in California is a hard row to hoe these days. i'm not from the area and don't know the shop, but you might consider cutting these guys a little slack. a lot of us are going through hard times...

Never had a problem with them. Decent selection of new and used guns. I've bought several pre-lock Smiths from them.

They used to get a ton of PD trade ins. I think every SIG, or GLOCK I own I bought there that way, they were killer deals. That being said, it got pretty dicey there staff wise a few years back. Sales people we're either buy it or leave, don't bother me, or too busy BS'ing with each others in the back. It was so close to my house, and Gun Stores so few, that I kept going. There staff did improve, and it has gotten a ton better since then. But the days of epic deals on ammo piled on the floor just inside the front door (those going there for years will remember that), are sadly missed.

I got a very nice used PD trade-in Rem 870 police magnum from them a few years ago. paid too much for it, but it was worth it to me. Seems like they started having problems around the time Kaiser Defense went under and maybe they were related somehow, or not.

My only real beef with them was their "legal requirement" that I buy an overpriced BB from them when purchasing an OLL. Lame.

Good riddance. There are many better new stores in the SD area right now (Parallax, Poway Weapons & Gear, Glock store...), I won't miss SoCal one bit!

Glock Store?! I've never heard of it.. Where is that place located? How are their prices on new Glocks? If they're cheaper than Parallax.. I might have to make a visit..

On the subject of the thread: I've never had a problem at SoCal Guns. Only thing I don't like about the place is they always seem to treat me like I'm a kid and don't know what I'm doing. I've been going there since I was 20.. So I wish they'd give me a break. I'm 25 now, and I like it when gun store employees treat me like a man. Since Parallax opened, I haven't visited SoCal Guns. Customer service = key.

I have been to So Cal guns many times and they were always nice to me. Busy a lot of times. Bought 2 firearms from them since the price was right, and they had it in stock. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

That was my go-to gun store when I lived in San Diego. Good people and decent prices. Never had a problem with them. Now, I shop at Dominion Outdoors....it's what a gun store should be.

Decided to stop by during my lunch hour. Things did seem somewhat "out of the ordinary", at least from what I'm used to seeing when I go. Inventory was unusually low - empty racks and display cases, and the smallest selection of consignment pieces I've seen since I've started going there. Maybe there is something going on...

I go in there at least once a week, check out the used and consigment guns..Some prices are a little high. some are good. I have purchased 2 guns there and always found the staff to be pretty cool.

The stock is close to what it always has been, at least for the last couple years .

I don't think they are anywhere near going down the tubes..
