    Thanks
If its j&r in livermore they have a local ordinance that says they must sell a gunlock with guns. I've never looked it up but took their word for it.

I had the same thing happen at Turners in Pasadena---I simply paid for the lock, took it home and returned it with receipt for credit against another purchase a couple of days later.

Wth, a lock that's 32 days old is too weak to block a trigger? Are we talking Chinese locks? Taiwan? Great Neck? Really, this state just gets stupider by the day. Which I told myself back in the late 80's could never possibly happen. G-damn but I could not have been more wrong......

Update: Called them and showed them the link to the .gov site saying a receipt of 30 days was suitable and they refunded my money, no problems at all!

Had to do the same at Rifle Gear, but they told me it was okay if I had a receipt within 30 days. I had a lock with me, but since I didnt have a receipt for purchase within 30 days, I had to buy another one. What is this rule for? If you have a approved lock, what does it matter that it was purchased within 30 days?

They're either very brittle, or bio-degradable. I honestly can't believe that they haven't started another department consisting of bureaucratic employees who do nothing but do tensile/shear/Rockwell tests on everyone's locks and safes every 31 days.

For a small fee of course....

The wisdom behind it is, if you bring in a lock that isn't new, it must have come off of a gun that you already have at home. So now theres a gun at home with no lock on it. Lame.

I have never run into this issue at any of the three ffls I frequent. They will take oem lock for handguns and safe affidavit for long guns.

                      Sheer brilliancenessness. Jeeeze.

On a slightly different tangent, does this mean that when I show up to my FFL guy next month to pick up my .22 rifle, I'm gonna have to have a new lock & reciept in my hand?....

RE: the J&R comment in #16 above.

I thought I would look this one up.

If it is over 30 days, yes, new lock. If within 30 days, you can use the same receipt. They just need to photocopy it. I have used the same receipt for three different pick-ups in one month before.

I had a weird one once, a gun store manager insisted it was State law that the rifle I was picking up (a .22LR rifle) had to be locked before he would let me leave the store with it. He made me get the lock out of my car, cut the lock out of the shrink wrap packaging, and lock the rifle (no refund at Big 5 on that lock), before he would release the rifle to me.

The Fun Police have absolutely fricken destroyed this once great state. I am so glad I got to witness first hand the wonderful 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's though. At least I can go to my grave with some very nice memories......
