    Forced gun lock purchase

    Hi there,

Today I was in my local gun shop to pick up my AR-15 lower, and was forced to purchase a cable lock, fine, Heres the thing though, I had a lock with me with receipt dated within 30 days and they said it had to be TODAY (the day picking up the gun) were they right or not in making me purchase a lock.

    Thanks

Wrong in making you buy it but just walk out and come back for a refund.

they screwed you.....unless the lock wasn't CA DOJ approved. But no, it doesn't have to be purchaesd the same day. I'd go back and return it and make a big deal about being lied to, but that's just me.

Alright, I'm going to give them a call back. They're a sponsoring store on this forum so I hope they work with me.

give them a chance to explain themselves too, perhaps you just misunderstood what they said. Or perhaps they have an employee who has his/her head up their butt. just talk to the manager/owner and tell them you want your money back. Most places will still give refunds even if they firmly believe they did nothing wrong. If they didn't, they'd get in trouble for refusing to do the same business with you that they do with others.

No definitely, it could have been that the person who was helping me didn't know that I had the lock on my person or something. The store has been very helpful so far so I think that they will be able to clear things up. I'll let you guys know how things go.

I've heard that fud also from another shop about the receipt having to be from that day.

Is there anywhere I can check to make sure the CA DOJ's policy is 30 days?

I recently bought a handgun that didn't come with a lock and I just had to sign an affidavit saying I have a safe. So no you don't have to have a lock with you or purchase their lock.

Livermore has that silly law. But you should be GTG with your lock and a receipt dated within 30 days.

Incorrect. Federal law requires a trigger lock for all handgun purchases, and federal requirements does not recognize safe affidavits. The FFL you bought your handgun from is going to have fun at their next ATF audit.

Well, just last June I bought another Glock and only had to provide the serial number of my safe. I didn't have to buy a lock.
