Don't be too surprised about 12 gauge shotguns that shoot .44mag and other calibers. There is a 12 gauge insert adapter you can buy that allows you to shoot these calibers. GOOFY - I know. But it exists.

If I had a nickle for every story I've heard about somebody shooting their 357, 12 or 10 gauge shotguns and the recoil knocking them down. Painful? uncomfortable? Sure. A buddy and I took a couple of coworkers of mine to the range (by Lake Piru). Among the several somewhat moderate weapons was a single shot 10 gauge shotgun, with it's 18 inch barrel and VERY light weight, it kicked like a mule. Shooting it went something like this.....BANG....ouch, reload. BANG.....ouch, reload. One of my coworkers decided to shoot it....again, only this time he kinda nonchalantly put it to his shoulder (not holding it tightly) it slipped down to his bicep as he squeezed the trigger. He almost dropped the gun. He almost cried. He had the BEST, most perfectly shaped butt stock bruise on his arm for a couple weeks. We talked soooo much smack for that move.
Oh I should mention that the shells we were shooting were 3 1/2 in magnum steel 00 buck...Why you ask? Because we're stupid and enjoy pain.

This has been one of my favorite sets of posts I have ever read... I have had a semi hippy guy at work that wanted friends, so he made sure to tell me about all the awesome guns he had shot. he explained how his fathers 7 mag flipped him over in his chair at the range and his 357 that broke his wrist... I invited him out to shoot a .458 Win Mag and 50AE to show him the proper way to shoot, but he quickly declined... Probably for the best, he might have hurt himself and sued me.

The BS gun guy's are just like all the kids that brag about how many people they've killed in combat, pretty easy to spot the guys that are full of stuff. You never hear a Vietnam Vet or someone with a nice firearm collection talking garbage like that.

When I was with Delta we were issued .50BMG rifles that had 100 round drums but after I joined the seals, we went straight to dual wielding desert eagles. I did a short stint with the CIA after that and downgraded to a single .44 magnum with a 19" long barrel.

I had a guy try to tell my friends and I to be careful shooting his circa 1994 9mm ball ammo. He said, in NAM the CIA found out it was being supplied to the viet cong, so they replaced the gunpowder with c4 in one bullet out of a pallet to sabotage the viet cong. I just about **** myself. I turned to my friend and just said really? c4? Last I checked a primer won't detonate c4.

So I guess maybe their could have been some sort of sabotaging going on but his story mixed with his general doucheyness screamed BS.

The really sad part was he had RAWs and was a gun smith..........had a huge ego and walked around telling everyone what parts they should put on their guns because they were all inferior to his. Needless to say we won't be shooting with him again.

The one guy I convinced to stop his BS was a guitar player. I told him I owned a ________ (some weird word I made up) the best guitar ever made...all the professional guitar players used them.... and played for a old band called metallica during their early years...he gave me a funny look and I said..."thats what you sound like telling people you own guns. Don't do it. If you need info on guns, just ask me."
Better yet. Why don't we getoff our high horses and be better ambassadors for the 2A. Let him know he sounds interested in 2A issues, invite him here, invite him shooting, gently corrrect his misconceptions and make him a 'true' gunnie. He's certainly not an "anti gunnie", why lose a potential advocate?
