When does curiosity cross the line?

I'm fairly confident that most of these threads are just harmless curiousity, smalltalk, etc. But at what point do any of you find it invasive?

It seems that I'm not the only one to notice the increasing frequency of threads like:
-How many guns do you own?
    -Show pictures of your collection
-Where do you hide your guns?

How about, "what hours are you away from your home?" "Do you have a do?" "Do you have a security system?" LOL. I laugh, but I'm sure these questions have been asked before.

I'm not paranoid, just cautious. I know I don't have to reply if I don't like it. You can bet your a** that I don't(a few individual pics aside). Just bringing this to light.

    Hey there, how's it goin!!!

I'm just playin with ya. I am pretty sketchy too when it comes to a person asking me how many guns I have and where they are at. Its none of their business. I'll post up pics of my guns here and there but I'll seldom show my whole collection or anything like that. And yes, I do have a security system for your information!!!

what if he is just genuinely interested in finding a new way to stash away one of his guns? people come on here to ask questions about all other kinds of gun related info.. lol, i do see your point, and I am not fond of giving up personal info online... but in his defense... where else would he ask that question? I dunno if the folks at the stop seal clubbing forum would be too helpful haha

I feel like that on here quite a bit. Your best defense is to not say anything and yes I do have my tin foil hat on. Just remember ANYTHING you put on the internet is public information accessible by anyone.

The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

I totally agree with you. Where else can you ask these types of questions? Nowhere, really. But that doesn't always relieve people of all scepticism.

                It's a bit of a catch-22.

An occasional thread here and there regarding these subject matters probably wouldn't raise so many eyebrows. However, there is a new one every week it seems.

Just thinking out loud. Take it for what you will.
Oh, and, no offense to the OP that I quoted. I don't blame you for asking questions.

Who cares? Unless he's Jedi-mindtricking you into answering the question thoroughly, no one is forcing you to answer the post. Reveal as much as you want to... and if someone traces your IP to your home address, and correlates your post about where you hide your guns, then you can be sure that you probably revealed too much.

Maybe you should read the whole post before spouting off

So I'm guessing you would not have a problem if a complete stranger asked for pictures of your family, where your kids go to school, where you and your wife work, what your work schedule is?

I'm sure you would decline to answer, but you wouldn't be at all offended?

I find it invasive when I am asked outright anything about my firearms, without some kind of reasons/context for the inquiry from a person I don't know personally. Talking about experiences, preferences and examples are fine, but when the question comes across as potential information farming I draw the line.

Spouting off on this nonsense? I did read the post and yes... it's nonsense. You're getting offended and concerned for someone asking a GENERAL question on a GENERAL forum?

Your analogous questions that you listed aren't analogies at all, you're listing direct questions aimed at you personally.

Unless there's a post on here titled "JagerTroop, what's in your collection and where do you like to hide your guns?", there's nothing direct or invasive about a general question.

The real question is, why are you getting offended at something that isn't even directed at you? And yes, it's not directed at you unless you choose to respond.

I just don't post in those threads. Nothing personal involved except personal OPSEC - it's no one else's business to know those things.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Wrong. Unless I am specifically excluded from the question, it is directed at me (and anyone else that is not excluded). When a "general" question is asked on an open forum, and there are no specific parameters(other than being a forum member), it is specifically directed at all members. That's what makes it a "general" question.
