When does curiosity cross the line?

      - On this site it seems like any question crosses the line.

Sometimes the questions make me a little uncomfortable, so I just move on and really don't give any direct answers if I choose to post.

People just need to be smart about how much personal info they reveal on a public forum, it's assimple as that.

I have never posted any of those types of threads nor do I posts pics of myself or anything I own for those very reasons.

You know, I was never fond of those "what brand of TP do you use to wipe your *** with" or "what kind of shaving cream do you favor" threads. Sure, those aren't as "critical" as show me the contents of your safe threads, but they're as annoying.

That's what makes it a "general" question.
It isn't directed at you. It's directed at anyone who chooses to respond. It's fishing for responses.

Think of it this way. Pretend you are at the mall and there's one of those kiosks selling acne lotion. There are two methods of attracting attention:

                      a) There's the guy who just screams "Facial acne lotion, come and get your acne lotion, gets rid of acne on your face!!" to no one in particular. He's just putting the comment out there waiting for a response. Do you suddenly think he thinks your face full of acne and get offended? Of course not, his comment wasn't directed at you in particular. He's looking for someone to show interest.

                      b) Then there's the guy who will ask you directly "excuse me sir, I'd like to show you some acne lotion for your face." Now he's directing his pitch at you personally. Obviously if you are sensitive about your acne, you might get offended.

Guess which scenario applies in a general forum?

I'm going to agree with nachoman here - if the post is not directed specifically at you, then let it be. There's a lot in life that could / would be offensive, it's just whether or not we choose to let these things bother us. By letting a general question get under your skin, you're letting the OP or the aggressor win. Let it go, I say, and move on to a more interesting topic that doesn't offend.

I'm even reserved with what I share/show my friends.

The other day I had a handful of guys over playing pool, known them all 5-20 years and one asks me if I have ANY guns. Just so happens I have a handgun in my toolbox not 2 feet away. Shocked and amazed, he asked how many guns I had, "a lot".

I can and have trusted these guys with many other aspects of my life, my stash, not so much. Loose lips sink ships.

btw, the topic turned to Calguns, and 3/5 guests knew of it, the other two wrote down the URL.

You told them you had a gun in the lunchbox? Your idea of reserved isn't the same as mine, Burbur.

What's the combination to your safe?
Guns, dogs and home alarms. Opponents are all of a sudden advocates once their personal space is violated.

Why is it all the funny stuff happens to comedians?

You always have the choice not to answer. If a post or thread makes you uncomfortable, don't reply.

Many on Calguns are like-minded individuals so I enjoy threads like "where do you hide your guns" to get some good ideas!
You think you know, but you have no idea.
