Co-worker: I believe in having 1 gun for self defense, but I don't see why people want to have an "arsenal' when you can only shoot one gun at a time.

Me: Some people have more than one car, but they can only drive one at a time, should people be limited to the amount of cars they can own too?

One needs the use of a vehicle to get around, one doesnt NEED to carry around an empty gun to the local coffee shop? Bad analogy.....I dont have an issue with your hobby but it appears to be allconsuming? Its just scary Mitchell thats all.

You could reply:

You're right one doesn't NEED to carry around an empty gun, that's just impractical, it is much more logical to carry around a loaded gun. Car's aren't mentioned in the constitution, arms are.

I didn't know today's humans were born without legs anymore. Walking, biking, carpooling, and public transportation are alternatives. "Ban cars, even if it saves one life, it's worth it!"

Honestly, though, you're just going to get a lot of uninformed opinions on facebook, and refuting them will just make you look crazy, as it's a social networking site, not a forum for debate.

Me: No, it's a rifle...

Cousin: "So...can it actually kill someone?"

Me: "If one aims the rifle at another person and pulls the trigger....yes, but that's not what I got it for"

You reminder me of a guy at Big 5 that I ran into when I went to buy some ammo. He was looking at some .45. He had a box of FMJ's and a box of hollow points in his hands. The lady working was trying to explain to him the difference between the hollow points and the FMJ's. He had no idea what she was talking about and asked her if they where real bullets or not. I looked at the lady and laughed. I then realized this guy should not have any firearm in his possession. I gave him a 15 talk about ammo and what a hollow point did to its intended target. It boggles the mind to think about how "un informed" people are.

There are two things I do when "heckled" and that I decide to actually discuss why owning guns are important. First I discuss all the statistics and all that and usually that's enough to get them. Then I go and talk about the whole concept of the natural right itself and then that's just the overkill. Tie that in with Hitler disarming the Jews. And Stalin disarming the masses and killing them as well as the Chinese and their disarmament and their picture changes. On top of that if you take them to the range you pretty much got them in the bag for life.

I always like this conversation:

Anti: All guns should be banned!
Me: Do you own any guns?
Anti: *gasp* Of course not!
Me: Then how are you going to take mine away?
Anti: The police will do it!
Me: So you'd send somebody else in harm's way for something you believe so strongly? Have the courage to back up your convictions. If guns are ever banned, I want YOU to come and get mine.

Of course that's not how I start the conversation. I try to sway them with logic and facts, then when they start getting all huffy, that's when the above occurs.

well.... while I could easily defend myself from a punk like you, I am not so sure about more than three or four attackers and I take my familys safety very seriously.
