I'm just curious how oxy-acetylene ignites by a bullet passing through it....

I know this one...

Acetylene will combust at 15psi. Bullet impact just has to raise the pressure in the bottle past 15psi.

I just use a plutonium core bullet with a shaped charge detonator.

It makes a bigger boom than nitroglycerin but you don't want to be too close to your target.
It's also advisable to stand upwind. :P

I saw "The American" the other day and George Clooney was turning an Mini-14 into a "sniper rifle." Whatever.

The part that got me to googling was this comment about "mercury tipped exploding bullets." As expected, it turns out that this is more classic hollywood fluff (although a new one for me). Kinda like the bullets exploding in a fire.

I know one guy who conducted experiments with this involving .45acp. and .41 magunum

the .45acp made a small entry hole into the stack of phone books, but blew the entire back out of it.
