Coleman tank of what? I know guys who shoot 5 gal LP tanks with tracers, APIs, APITs, spotter tracers, etc. and they have to have a highway flare or other secondary ignition source to ensure the tank reacts properly to being hit.

They come with the gecko45 seal of approval. Doesnt go on a mission without them.

If the energy released upon impact is high enough, the bullet will become plasma hot. That is more than enough to ignite oxyacetylene.

I know for a fact that 25gr .17 cal handloads in .17 Rem will become plasma on impact w/ mild steel at 3300 fps at 50 yds.

That's what I figured was happening since lead is non ferrous as far as I know. I didn't expect a direct hit to get so hot.

Yeah that'll work! It'll detonate right in the chamber

^^ do you think it will go off striking the feed ramp, or will the extreme acceleration of the round being fired set off the primer.

Neither. C4 is what it is because it is so stable. However, (disclaimer; IANAEE - I Am Not An Explosives Expert) I quote some inet source or another:

"Detonation can only be initiated by a combination of extreme heat and a shock wave..."

                      I wouldn't want to test it :-|

What's in the Devastator .22LR cartridges Hinckley shot president Reagan with?

They claimed on the news back then, that the bullets contained some sort of explosive and would explode on contact.

In WWII we had 30-06 rounds that were called "Star-fire Rounds". They were tipped with a small amount of White-Phosphorus and would make a bright flash on impact. They were designed to ignite the fuel tanks on enemy aircraft.

Still not the same as them CSI Nitro tipped Heart attack bullets.

                                I've heard that before
The Jap. Zero did not have a fuel tank bladder
So a round in the right spot would ignite the fumes inside
