It is far better to dip the bullet in feces.

This falls under the same catagory as the ice bullet, seems like it would work for a second or so, but then you think and realize it really wont.

            Now That's entertainment..!!!!! I like it ...............

As the story on CSI /N Y went ,
The sniper took a large hollow point rifle round .filled the end with nitro. Then capped it off with a wax tip
The round would enter the victim then go Boom......

            Ya Right ....

That show has got it totally wrong. Nitroglycerin tipped bullets are part of the new Obama health care.

Medically trained snipers will be on every roof top. If they see anyone having heart problems they shoot you with one to stabilize your heart. On second though we have a few bugs to work out.

Just wait for the push to ban them. After all, that's where the antis seem to get their information from

Oh, goody! They've solved that pesky prematuring problem... it was getting so hard to find a new sniper for each job, too.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I learned a long time ago to take any "scientific" technobabble on any of these cop shows and completely disregard it as being BS. Some of the ideas in Star Trek are more grounded to reality than what you find on CSI, Numbers, etc.

In another stupid episode a disgruntled sniper shoots at people in Miami.

He is firing a .223 sabot.

It has a sabot so the rifle grooves would not show on the bullet.

He was hitting people from well over 800 yards.

The victims were getting hit with what looked like .30 cal from 20 feet

He would sit on top of buildings and from over 800 yards away had enough energy for a .223 to hit people.

Yeah that bullet is no where near stable...

                          800 yards it's a BB gun.

I am not sure what the effective range of a 30-06 sabot round with a 55 grain.223 bullet is but the muzzle velocity is around 4000 fps. or more I think the 308 is 3900 fps.... So at least it is plausible plus the sabot falls away pretty fast so there wouldn't be any marks on the bullet...
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one, you may never need one again.

It's going fast but how fast will that velocity drop in a .223 bullet?

Plus how many times is that bullet spinning in the barrel with a plastic sabot around it?

Enough to stabilize it for an 800 yard+ shot?

                              I don't think so.
