I don't recall where it was, maybe something I read years ago(novel), but
I seem to remember that there was a badguy using these bullets too, but instead
of wax sealed bullets, he had tiny glass vials bonded onto his hollow points.
Of course for the same effect, a slight boom on impact...

Some of these CSI shows are like watching Saturday morning cartoons sometimes

I saw one during the week where a guy was shot as he sat by his pool
The CSI expert found the bullet nearby in seconds and by " Picking it up "
Could tell what kind of twist it had and what kind of weapon it was fired from !!!!!!

This is what I was thinking.
You could take little nitro glycerine pills, stuff one in the end of a hollow point, and then use it to actually STOP chest pain

I'm just curious how oxy-acetylene ignites by a bullet passing through it....

I believe Horatio Cane from CSI Miami can shed some light on the matter

I think they may have given the bad info deliberately.

Lead azide or fulminate of mercury would actually work if some joker tried it.

Although just sticking small rifle primers into hollowpoints works just fine

Unfortunately I stumbled on that same episode.

When she said it came from a "Colt pistol" I vomited and changed the channel.

While bullets are quite hot from the barrel friction, they are far from gaseous ignition hot. I would be rather surprised if even tracers would light them off.
