Oh, I know...this is why I try to be extremely careful of who I am in contact with (I have a very small social circle) etc....

What would be wrong with saying yes?

Perfectly legal to carry a concealed and loaded weapon on your person in your home.

True, but I'm sure they will be specific about when, where and do you have a ccw...which they would pretty much know I didn't, living in Southern California.

I carry at home since no CCW is needed. James Yeager states publicly in classes and on published video that you should carry anywhere not guarded by a metal detector. If your wardrobe is good enough, you are not real likely to have a problem. If you get in some catastrophic accident, a misdemeanor charge really won't be a chief concern. A DA might not even charge it under the circumstances. I would say that you have to understand the risks for yourself and judge for yourself. Also consider if the school you are going to is covered by any of the gun free statutes.

As to carrying a knife: In a grappling situation, such as getting tackled or grabbed, a knife in the hands of somebody that knows how to use it trumps gun every day of the week. Imprudent brandishing of a knife can also give a mugger legal justification to pull out a gun and blow your brains out and claim he was the victim. You won't be there to testify otherwise. So use some judgment on that one. Also keep in mind you might have school issues with a knife. A lot of knife laws are more harsh than gun laws as odd as that may seem.

As to pepper spray: It won't stop any determined attacker, but it will give you a decisive advantage to get away since it will be hard for them to see you. Back when I was at UCR they sold pepper spray in the book store, so I'm pretty sure that is the school friendly choice.

Stun guns / tasers: stun guns are absolutely worthless. Tasers are much better, but you get one shot before you are back to worthless.

Relying on security guards: About as worthless as the stun gun. There may be some exceptions, but every security agency I'm aware of has a clause in their contract stating that they will observe and report but not attempt to make any intervention in a violent encounter.
+1 on the above. Stun Guns/Tasers are expensive and worthless.

Pepper spray and Knives are a better choice, you just need to understand the limitations and when you can deploy them.

As for "Dirty Carry"...I've done it in the past when I felt there was a very real danger to my life. Other than that, I only carry in and around my home and sometimes while fishing (12027[G]). I would not recommend UOC. Also understand that if you plan on having a career in LE in the future, best not to risk a 12025 or 12031 charge. As for having a firearm in your vehicle, its basically worthless except in a few situations (Edit: You also have to worry about your car being broken into while parked).

Correct on the 2.5 oz law.

A folding knife can be of any length and can be carried open or concealed. You still need to check your county/local law and College rules.

I would recommend a Spyderco Civilian or Endura with full serration and wave.

You could, and if the only place you carried was in your home you could say so. But they WILL probe further. My point was if you do it illegally (meaning you carried outside your home or in public) then you've got 2 choices:

              1) You can lie and hope they dont catch it, but if they do or suspect you are or it flags on your polygraph you get an automatic DQ and career is over before it starts. (If you get DQ'd for lying that will follow you to anywhere else you apply after that also)

              OR

              2) You can be honest, answer all the probing questions that follow and hope the responses you give don't DQ you.

Pepper spray is the best option other than a CCW permit, especially if you are a woman.
Reminds me of the scene in Saving Private Ryan, when that guy pulled out his knife when he was in a hand to hand struggle with the Nazi. The Nazi overpowered him and made the guy bury his own knife in his own chest. Hence me saying, "If you're gonna carry a knife, make sure you are proficient with it, because if it gets taken from you. Now you're in double deep doo doo.

That rule goes for any weapon though. I was taught "Any weapon you have on you is a weapon that can be used against you."

Even with pepper spray you could get some wind drift and catch some of it yourself.

Good weapons retention training is just as important and the use of the weapon itself.

this is true....i used to work at an autopart store and some idiot sprayed mace in the air (he said he didnt know what it was cuz it was his friends keys) and ended up getting me the store manager and the same idiot that sprayed it. we looked at him and he said "i didnt do it" after a few minutes he said sorry and explained why he did it.

say someone did carry a gun without a ccw and ended up using it to protect themselves, family or even a cop in distress...i read different stories about people carrying illegally then used the gun for protection and nothing happens. (sorry i dont have any articles on it)is it that it depends on the situation? even if the shooting was justified because you feared for your life wouldnt you still get busted for ccwing without a permit? i dont ccw i have just always wondered this question...

                        Yes, they would.
The real question is 'what circumstances existed that allowed you to get your gun, but prevented your from leaving'?
This question would apply to every self defense claim.

I was actually taught a technique against pepper spray where you cover your eyes with an open hand palm out and close the distance while looking at their feet. Once the distance is closed you have a handful of mace so smear in their face and eyes as you do the take down. My personal opinion of pepper spray is it is only marginally effective for SD. Where it really excels and seems to get the most use is on dogs and torturing people into compliance.

It means you aren't making the correct sacrifices in the clothing you are wearing or you are just simply incapable of rational decision making and thought processes.

If you get in a car crash and then they somehow find it because you are too injured to unload and secure it in a locked container, oh well life sucks and you'll get charged with a misdemeanor, if you even survive.

After becoming sober I live my life 24 hours at a time, I cannot control nor predict the future but everyday I will be ready to face whatever comes my way, good or bad.

I dont have time to wait for the laws to change, because today could be the day I need that piece of equipment more than anything else I've ever needed in my life, I'm not willing to take the chance of not having effective means to save my life or others lives simply because the socialist liberal law makers of CA say I am not allowed to. They are rich and have their own personal security, to them we are simple peasants and us getting killed on the streets just means there is less conservative opposition to their liberal aganeda.

If we die because we follow their laws, they win.

I thought I gave some sound advice but obviously you are so impressionable that you need to know "other's opinions on the matter" instead of choosing to follow the law or not follow the law based on your own terms and level of risk.

I would suggest talking to gun owners outside of a public forum if you want accurate opinions on breaking the law. ...and that's my opinion on this matter.
