That seems a little uncalled for.Seriously, OP, forget the "bat belt", cuffing, and shooing him out the door like he's some stray dog. Invest in some good locks instead.
If you feel you must take on the guaranteed tide of home invasions you will be having, get some practical training, both legal and firearms. Are we sure this isn't Gecko45?
The OP has a belt that holds: "Nothing out of the ordinary: holster, extra mag pouch, a knife and a small clip-on flashlinght."
The fact is, if a homeowner is going to investigate loud noises downstairs at 3AM - and is going to bring a handgun along - the belt isn't a horrible idea. There isn't any fumbling around trying to find stuff, just put on the belt and go. This also allows the option of leaving the gun holstered; some folks might want to have the gun in hand, others might not until a threat has been confirmed.
And if it turns out that it's nothing more than the cat knocking over the wife's vase, then the holster is an advantage as it allows the handgun to be safely controlled as one cleans up the mess.
The OP has expressed one big desire: he doesn't want to have a gun in hand when responding LEOs show up if he catches a bad guy, and he'd rather let the intruder go than expose himself to the possibility of being shot mistakenly. Maybe overly cautious, but it's not an entirely irrational position.
BTW, a cell phone might be another good item for the belt.

I have a set of traditional cuffs in a paddleback case in the nightstand drawer. Of course they are in the same place I tossed them the last time I came home from the job before I quit... haven't touched them since.
FWIW.... I was a cop for quite a while and the last thing I am going to be doing in an HD scenario is cuffing the perp.
Just sayin....

IMO, it's not a bad idea to keep a set of disposable restraints in one's SHTF bag just in case. To each his own, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Below is an example of a convenient hard plastic case that holds 2 ASP Tri-fold restraints securely on a belt or inside a bag. The case can be worn right side up or upside down for an easier draw because there is a locking lip on the clip area that will keep it on a belt in either orientation. It should come with 2 bright yellow restraints with pull rings that help you get the restraints on fast. Brand is ASP.

I bought a few of these for when my buddy and I do "community service."
Speaking of which, he's busy this weekend. Is there anyone here who enjoys driving a van and/or passing out candy to kids?
