Always be the first to contact the police.

If he's cooperative, wait for the cops. Chances are, he won't be cooperative and will attempt to escape.
Make sure you get a GOOD description, and preferably have whoever phone's 911 snap a few photos.

If you let someone go chances are he could come back and with friends. Remember the likelihood of this to begin with is small, but the mentality of those that do home invasion is unknown. Don't risk letting him go and do the rest of us a favor and get him off the streets.

He's already seen the interior layout of your house.
He knows how he got in, and how he may get in again.

Most importantly, he knows you have guns.... more motivation for a repeat visit. He'll just be more careful and make sure that you are asleep, in the shower, or at work.

+1 to what Cokebottle said. I've shared my two cents. Good thought provoking discussion.

Let me get this straight. You have a "utility belt" you wear around your house just in case some felon breaks in and you want to carry around flex cuffs too???

And in addition you are more worried about the police shooting you??

Maybe you would be better served spending your hard earned $$$$ on some good locks and a good security system than spending it on so much tin foil....

This has got to be a joke.

                  It's called a bat belt.

In all seriousness when you're lying in bed and all of the sudden you hear your front door get kicked in I wouldn't screw around putting a belt on.

Grab your gun, call PD, TCOB.

But holding a suspect at gunpoint with a bat belt and undies on would be priceless.

That's certianly one possible situation. But it's far from exhaustive.

I've been in that situation before. Suffice it to say I'm glad I had my gun holstered and not waving around in my hand.

After a brief search on the net for some equipment solutions for your issue. I found these photos. I hope they help give you some ideas.

                        Everyday around the house wear.

For those evenings where you never know who might show up.

You've heard sounds outside The perimeter alarms have been tripped. Is it Osama come to unleash his wrath upon you, or is it that pesky squirrel that keeps stealing seeds for the bird feeder.....You never know.

Thanks man, I haven't laughed so hard in months.

You need to diversify brand names...

I came back to check out this thread and I'm glad I did.

Seriously, OP, forget the "bat belt", cuffing, and shooing him out the door like he's some stray dog. Invest in some good locks instead.

If you feel you must take on the guaranteed tide of home invasions you will be having, get some practical training, both legal and firearms. Are we sure this isn't Gecko45?
