My problem has been finding 9mm and .45.....I think the shortage is almost over and the situation getting much better,

But that is also scare, and now, also expensive. In fact, wouldn't most of you agree that .223 is the second scarcest rifle ammo?

      EDIT: of the popular calibers.
I guess you haven't been looking online then, there's plenty of .223 available and it's cheaper than it's been in almost a year.

Not a big fan of buying online, unless it's a really good deal, or a smaller quantity order. The shipping and tax just kills it for me.

I know you still have to pay tax at the gun shows, but at least you're not having to pay a buttload for shipping.

Yeah, but what's the unemployment up there? In vegas they call it a whopping 13%!!

Bring that ammo down to the Bay Area and listen to the sucking sound!!

That sound is well established in the bay area.

Picked up a couple 550 value packs, 100 round .223, and .308 at the Victorville Wal-Mart last night. The salesperson said it had been sitting on the shelf a couple days.

Um...you don't pay tax on online orders from out of state companies. Where have you been?

And Palmetto charges $12 shipping on 1k rounds.

Maybe you can beat that locally but I can't. Especially when I can get my ammo with a couple of mouse clicks and I don't have to spend half a day on a gun show.

so far I have not had any problems getting the ammo I need, I shoot primarily .40sw along with .223, 7.62x39 etc.....I have been getting my ammo online or here on CalGuns.....also, every local gun store that I have been to seemed to have every type of caliber out there......given, the prices are a bit high....but for me....ammo is out there if you look.........for example.....I was at Doms in Livermore last week, they had .22 and even 9mm.......WalMart in my area seem to have .223 in stock as well.......

Federal 550 packs are still not available at my local walmart. When they are, the ammo shortage is over!

I cannot remember the last time I've seen 9mm and .45 WWB VPs at Walmart. Maybe 09'? I know for sure I haven't bought any .22LR 550 VP since 09' as well.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart, but recently I've seen the Big 5s and Sports Authorities becoming better stocked. For a while it seemed like they only carried 30-06 and .22LR Sub-sonic...

Still no 550 blocks but the last time I went in they had 6+ varieties of .22LR well stocked and other calibers seemed OK (didn't look because I was only buying .22LR...)

Now if only they'd carry 54R spam cans!

The last time I was able to walk into a Walmart and buy a Federal 550 pack (knowing it would be in stock), was in October of 2008.

I haven't seen .45 anywhere, although I have started to see a lot of 9mm.

What I really want to see, as far as pistol ammo goes, is .32 ACP........you can't find it anywhere, and when you do they want $35 a box for it.

I picked up a case of 10 boxes of 550 rounds of Federal just a couple of months ago in Simi.I don't consider it hoarding since, my stockpile is still smaller than it was pre-O. I just couldn't belive the new prices! It was ove $50/case more than last time I bought any.

Big 5 by my house had Wolf 45 cal for 20$ a box on sale. 20$ for 50 rounds of steel case ammo? Naw I dont think so. Ill shoot steel case brass or aluminum I dont care I am not gonna pay 20$ for steel case ammo.

other than that Walmart seems to be the place where everyone gets their plinking ammo. once in a while I see 45 and 9mm. at waly. When I do Im sorry to say I buy it. And before someone jumps on me there are usually 3 boxes of 45. I jsut went to my local wally and they have 9mm. 16$ a box. I havent bought any cause Im stocked up on 9mm and 45 now. Other than that if I run low I buy as much as i can wherever I can. And Im willing to bet that everyone else buys as much as they can if they find it for a good price.
