ah, yes, the good old 1911 vs Glock debate. Just like 9mm vs. .45acp, bean or no beans, AR vs AK, this will not go anywhere. 
Question is "For what purpose?"
For general purpose, including arming a group of people, Glock wins without much debate. They are very easy to maintain and fix, not to mention use. You don't have to have a skilled craftsman to fit it. As someone said, if you treat your guns like a lawn mower, Glock is the way to go.
1911s on the other hand is a great design that is extremely ergonomic for more people. Theoretically, the straight pull of the trigger enables better cleaner trigger pull. It can be made in various configurations, from a simple "GI" model to a high end model. If I were to choose a pistol for precise and accurate shooting, 1911s have more areas to take advantage of.
