But it does not beat them all, does it. It is an average 1911.

-Just doing my part to keep this thread going!!!!
My Springfield 1911's gone over 3000 rounds and hasn't jammed. My USP's gone over 4000 rounds, and hasn't jammed either. Heck, even my ex-rental Kimber TLE saw almost 4 straight months of weekly use without cleaning before I bought it, and it had no failures. What's your point?

At 2000 rounds, the gun's barely broken in. When you get to 20k failure-free rounds (which is what the USP is rated for), come back to me.

Sure there is. When I pick up a Glock, my brain says "Glocks Suck."

The best one is the one that fits you and can shoot the best. Glocks and most 1911's are all quality made pistols. If you prefer the polymer construction of the Glock over the metal 1911 then that is a matter of opinion only.

None of my 1911's have ever jammed, other than due to my negligence by going too light with a handload.

I have a Springfield 1911 from '89 that has over 15,000 rounds. It's jammed on me twice over all that time. But then, I take care of my guns and lube them properly. It's been through a number of classes, some over a course of five days with nothing more than some lubing and a wipe down the night after a class. Not a hiccup. This whole myth of the unreliable 1911 is just that. A myth.

Maybe it's that 1911's require a bit of intelligence to remain serviceable, and Glocks do not? And if the attitude of the latter is carried over to reloading, a KB occurrs!

                            So there we have it:

                            1911's jam, and Glocks KB.

                            The End.

These photos are of a AMT Combat Government Hardballer 1911 pistol that fired a handloaded .45 ACP round that was overloaded with powder. The result is quite spectacular. The top of the chamber has been blown right off taking a considerable section of the slide with it.

+1 Dude that was awesome! P.S I wonder if that 1911 KB had anything to do with it being branded with Government on the side of it?
