Last time I seen 12 gauge shotshells , birdshot , was 3rd week of when covid first started, than it was gone forever at glendora Walmart and upland Walmart.

Kmart sold blazer 9mm, 38 special, 22lr and shotshells until just after Columbine happened at Covina and west Covina Kmart
Walmart in Covina sold guns until 2000 I believe, single shot shotguns, 22s and bolt action rifles

As a kid I remember going with my late grandfather to Kmart for blazer 9mm in Covina and 38 special.

That's because you were around 8 when most walmart gun sales stopped in CA.

I'm 30 also and I do remember the Wal-Mart in Pomona sold long guns. I was 10 when I got my first BB gun in 2002 and they were still selling firearms.

I don't recall ever seeing any firearms for sale at any Walmart in California, at least in Orange County. They did sell ammunition and BB guns. They stopped selling ammo after the background check requirement was passed. The only non gun store I recall that sold firearms was Big 5. They used to have some interesting items for sale, some cool .22LR clones such as the GSG STG44 or the Sig 522, etc.

A lot has changed in a short time period. In just the past decade you have the long gun registration requirement, no more Single Shot pistol conversion to get past the roster, no more C&R long guns shipped directly to your home with your C&R and COE, etc.

I used to always go look at the guns here in Kali as a kid in Zody's , White Front , Gemco , Kmart , Sears and a few others while my folks shopped lol. Also I was in Utah a few weeks ago and the Walmart there only had a few shotguns and hunting rifles as well as only shotgun shells (no buckshot) , .243 , 30-06 and other hnting calibers. No .22 of any kind as well as the guy said they do not sell pistol ammo or 7.62/.223/.556

Yea, it's funny. They walk me to the door with my new, empty .22 rifle while I'm open carrying a P320. Ya just gotta laugh.

Geebuz, did you get a belt-fed machine gun? I haven't fired that many rounds in ten lifetimes. I haven't fired any .22 since the 80's. I bought 3 22's last year, so that might change this year.

(Even NICS wasn't a thing until 1998). From what I gather on this page, they sold firearms back in the early 2000's but by the 2010's they stopped selling firearms in their stores (in CA at least)
                              If I remember correctly...

They stopped selling in CA in 2005, after the BATFE pulled their FFLs from several of their stores due to violating Federal laws/regulations and being fined $14.5 million by CA DOJ for violating CA laws/regulations.

From 2000-2003, Wal-Marts throughout CA amassed 2891 violations, in which they failed to comply with Federal & CA legal requirements (no ATF 4473 forms and no CA DROS submitted) and illegally transferred firearms (no waiting periods, cash & carry).
^BATFE prosecuted and convicted 20 people for being straw purchasers for prohibited persons.
