Walmart here has long guns and a limited selection of ammo. North 40 has a much larger selection and better business practices IMO. Sheep dog is also good. Privately owned and a great guy. They also get my money. Walmart is avoided at all costs with my wallet.

I live in Nevada, Walmart's here will not sell, 9mm, 45 or 223/5.56.

Walmart did in fact sell guns and ammo. I used to buy ammo at the Poway store, and look at the guns they had. That all ended when some a-hole used a store gun to shoot and kill the manager in the Poway store.

              30.

I don't recall ever seeing any firearms for sale at any Walmart in California, at least in Orange County. They did sell ammunition and BB guns. They stopped selling ammo after the background check requirement was passed. The only non gun store I recall that sold firearms was Big 5. They used to have some interesting items for sale, some cool .22LR clones such as the GSG STG44 or the Sig 522, etc.

A lot has changed in a short time period. In just the past decade you have the long gun registration requirement, no more Single Shot pistol conversion to get past the roster, no more C&R long guns shipped directly to your home with your C&R and COE, etc.

I bought a ruger 10/22 from Walmart back in the early to mid 90's. From what I remember the long gun selection was very limited

                  Wow.
Kmart, later Walmart (came to CA from back east more recently ), White Front, Western Auto, BEST stores, hardware stores, and liquor stores had handguns and ammo in SoCal

Walmart did indeed sell handguns when they first came to CA. I remember when they decided to "remove" rifles from their stores and sold Mini 14s on "close out" for $250.00.

I bought a single barrel shotgun for $50.00. Should have bought a Mini.

From what I'm able to look up, Walmart first came to California in 1990/1991. The gun laws in CA were not as stringent back in the 90's as they are today. (Even NICS wasn't a thing until 1998). From what I gather on this page, they sold firearms back in the early 2000's but by the 2010's they stopped selling firearms in their stores (in CA at least)

I've bought very little ammo from Walmart since I got back to AZ because they never have anything I want. I used to buy quite a bit from the Milpitas store when I was still in kali.

I bought a few guns and lots of 10mm ammo from North 40. Great store on government way.

                              Never heard of sheep dog.

After that the manager had to walk you out to your vehicle and hand it over there.

They lost the keys to my trigger lock once. Took $10 off for my trouble.

I tore it off with my Leatherman in the parking lot and handed it back to the manager.
